Raising children in New York City, or taking a family vacation here, can be an expensive proposition. So quality free family activities are particularly welcome. This summer, HipTot fits the bill with a monthly Family Day @ Lakeside series. The free concert in NYC continue through September are still upcoming.

The monthly Family Day includes a  live music performance, along with story time, crafts and giveaways. The events are held in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, and the newly renovated LeFrak Center at Lakeside. This is where there are two outdoor ice skating rinks in winter; in summer, one rink becomes the Splash Pad, with water jets and fountains.

The next Family Day @ Lakeside  is July 12, form 11am – 2pm. Local band Mil’s Trills plays an interactive set and Brooklyn author Melanie Hope Greenberg reads and signs copies of her book, Mermaids on Parade.

The remaining Family Day concerts, all 11am – 2pm, are: August 9, with Rolie Polie Guacamole + Dog on Fleas featuring Grammy Winning songwriter Dean Jones, and September 14, The Trummytones.
