Learn about the history of Muskegon County at the Lakeshore Museum Center. Take a 10,000 year journey through the “Coming to the Lakes” exhibit, where you can see a life-sized mastodon, sawmill and Great Lakes Schooner. In the “Body Works” exhibit, ride an exercise bike, build a meal, and visit computer stations. The Food Webs gallery brings the outdoors inside as guests tour five habitats and learn about the animals and plants that call them home.

The free Muskegon Museum of Art focuses on visual art, including paintings, prints, sculpture and glass.

Enjoy free summer movies on Fridays at dusk, June – August, with LST Movies on Deck. Come aboard the deck of the USS LST 393 in historic Downtown Muskegon and watch a free movie against the background of Muskegon Lake.

Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve: Fish, observe wildlife, walk through wetlands along a boardwalk, or have a picnic. Open year round.

Historic Downtown Audio Walking Tour: Stop in at the Convention and Visitors Bureau and pick up an MP3 player free of charge, then take a stroll past the historic buildings of Downtown Muskegon. Learn the history behind each building and see the various architectural influences of the homes, churches, and public buildings throughout the historic downtown area.

White River Light Station and Museum Built in 1875 by Captain William Robinson, the White River Light Station now serves as a physical reminder of the rich nautical history of Michigan. Climb the spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse tower, browse the many 19th and early 20th century photographs and examine the collection of nautical artifacts. Look out across Lake Michigan as the lighthouse keeper did a century ago.
