SwedishDaysWhether you are on a family vacation to Chicago, or from the Windy City, you might want to check out Geneva, Illinois, 40 miles west. Geneva, in the Fox River Valley, has an annual six day free festival, Swedish Days.

The June festival starts the Tuesday after Father’s Day and continues for six days.

The free family friendly activities include live entertainment on Tuesday – Saturday, from 1 – 3pm on Third Street courthouse lawn and from 7:30 or 8pm on Central Stage on Third Street.

Kids can make crafts at Creation on Tuesday – Thursday and Saturday from 10am – 1pm on the Third Street courthouse lawn.

Friday is Kids’ Day on Third Street courthouse lawn, with games, performances and a kids’ parade, 11am – 3pm.

The Grand ParadeThe Grand ParadeThere are free activities and giveaways for all ages at the Library Tent Wednesday – Friday at the Geneva Public Library, 127 James Street.

The big events are the Sweden Väst, held Saturday, 10am – 5pm and Sunday, 10am – 3pm on N. Fourth Street.  The Väst offers Swedish inspired entertainment and activities for all ages

 And on the final day of the festival, on Sunday, watch the Grand Parade. It kicks off at 1pm and lasts for 2 – 3 hours. The parade goes along Anderson Blvd, south to State Street, east to Third Street, then south, ending at the train station.
