Talladega residents refer to their home as a city of heritage, achievement, and transformation. Forty-five minutes from Birmingham and an hour and a half from Atlanta, this community of 18,000 prides itself on historic preservation and a quiet lifestyle. These free things to do will help you have a cheap family vacation
It’s also a huge draw for racing fans, as evidenced by the free events listed below.
1. Talladega Superspeedway Fans attending the AMP Energy 500 weekend (Oct. 30-Nov. 1) can watch a NASCAR race and spend the night for free. There are 15,000 campsites at 3 overnight parks, free day parking on track property, and a free Kids Zone in the display area. Access to the overnight campsites requires race tickets – see Web site for more information.
2. Talladega-Texaco Walk of Fame Honoring NASCAR stars, including the legendary Davey Allison, the Texaco Walk of Fame is accessible by walkways that form the shape of the Talladega Superspeedway. See the bronze plaques of those who have been inducted into the Walk of Fame.
