Galveston, about an hour from Houston, Texas, draws families throughout the (very) warm summer months – and mild spring and fall – for its beaches and theme parks.

But this year it is adding a Passport to Holiday Magic program, frpm November 16, 2013 through January 4, 2014. With over 1,000 holiday events, many of them free, Galveston is truly a year-round family destination.

The passport is part of a contest where visitors can get stamps when they go to different events, then win hotel stays, waterpark admissions or a cruise. But anyone coming to Galveston for the free holiday events is a winner.

Some of the highlights of Galveston’s holiday festival:

Hotel Galvez Holiday Lighting Celebration on November 29.

Lasers, Lights & Magic in Saengerfest Park. There is a nightly laser show at 6, 7 and 8pm, along with music and a visit from Santa, November 30- through Dec 31st.

Galveston Holiday in the Park Choral Concert Series at Saengerfest Park, December 14, 15 and 21. Local school choirs, bands and church choirs perform from noon – 6pm.
