Free in Vermont

Skiing is an expensive habit, but the Okemo Valley of Vermont, near Okemo Mountain Resort, has many free activities to explore when you are off the slopes. Stay on a budget with these free in Vermont family activities.

See the exhibits at The Vermont Institute of Contemporary Arts in Chester. Great for a day when ski conditions aren’t ideal.

Sample the cheese and fudge (and nuts, crackers, cookies, spreads) at The Vermont Country Store. Don’t worry, you are burning off all those calories on the slopes!

Go on a scavenger hunt during Lovin Ludlow Winter Carnival and Chester Winter Carnival, both held in February.

Visit the Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site and watch the cheese making at Plymouth Artisan Cheese.

More cheese! Visit Crowley Cheese to watch the cheese production and eat free samples.

Learn about historic Ludlow at the Black River Academy Museum.

Watch the wood workers at Clear Lake Furniture.

Browse at Book Nook or Misty Valley Books or attend a free author reading.

Warm up by the fire at Jackson Gore Inn, inside or out.

Taste maple syrup at Green Mountain Sugar House. New York recently edged out Vemont in maple syrup production, but Vermont maple syrup is still a mainstay.
