With outdoor adventure, a Civil Rights legacy and Southern history encompassing plantations, African-Americans and Native Americans combined with its location on the Flint River, Albany in southwest Georgia is “where history and nature flow.”

Here are four free and family friendly things to do in Albany on your next family vacation.

1. RiverFront Park is a 6-acre park located in downtown Albany along the Flint River. Amenities include a great lawn area for family picnics and gatherings, music and light animated play fountain, pavilion areas, Turtle Grove Play Park, a 1.5 mile Greenways Trail System, Horace King Overlook, the historic Bridge House and the Riverwalk.

2. Turtle Grove Play Park> www.albanygacvb.com is the community built park that features a safe and secure play area for children ages 1-14. The play park includes seven basic areas: Dino Dig, Tot Lot, Big Kid Area, Critters Area, Mosaic-Tile Area, Rock Climbing Wall,
Musical Instruments and other static climbing features.

3. Ray Charles Plaza> Albany is the birthplace of Ray Charles. He is memorialized in this downtown park with benches in the design of piano keys that plays his music and features a life size bronze sculpture of Ray sitting at his piano.

4. Albany Welcome Center opened in August 2008 in the historic Bridge House. Stop by to learn about things to do in Albany and the region, pick up some souvenirs and watch the film “From the Heart of Southwest Georgia.”
