Christmas holidays are one of our favorite times to travel. If you can avoid the crowds by flying late on Christmas Eve or on Christmas day, it is a great time to explore a new city in its entire holiday splendor. Last year, we flew to LA for our first plane trip since my son’s birth. He was an active nine month old by then, so keeping him confined to the seat was a challenge. By booking a late evening flight we were able to keep him asleep throughout the trip. Having my mom and sister join also helped us achieve this milestone smoothly. It was great to have extra pairs of hands to entertain him during the trip. Since my mom has been his primary care giver when I’m at work, my son is always comforted by her presence. The three hour time difference didn’t affect him too much; we kept the room dark, enabling him to sleep until his usual 7am wake up time.
These were the highlights of our LA itinerary. All of our activities were completely free of charge and stroller friendly. Los Angeles was a great place to start a vacation with a baby and it had something to offer for everyone in the family.
1. Hollywood Boulevard:
We walked around the Hollywood Walk of Fame trying to spot stars of our favorite celebrities.
2. Rodeo Drive:
A drive through, preferably in the evening, was perfect to see the beautiful décor and the holiday light displays.
3. Santa Monica:
We saw the famed Ferris wheel which is the backdrop for many TV shows. There is an outdoor shopping complex leading to the pier with many restaurants. The boardwalk is also filled with many eateries if you feel like a snack.
4. Pacific Coast highway 1/ Mulholland Drive:
We were treated to amazing scenery that we’re familiar with on television while baby enjoyed a nice nap.
5. Griffith Observatory:
We arrived there early evening and the view was perfect. We saw the Hollywood sign from one end and had a spectacular view of the valley from above.
6. Getty Center:
We spent nearly half a day at the Getty Center. In addition to the exhibitions on display, the building and the view from above is worthy of the trip up the mountain.
7. The Grove:
The well known outdoor mall was great for browsing through holiday deals around and taking in the beautiful holiday décor
