Q. I’ve read a lot about the importance of breathing, but I never remember to make it a part of my daily routine–especially when I’m on the road as a traveling mom. How can I make focused breathing a habit?

A. With so much going on in our lives, it’s easy to forget to do the simple, good-for-us things, like taking a deep breath. Try this. Start small. When you wake up in the morning, get into the habit of sitting up in bed and taking a few deep breaths. At the end of the day, take a few deep breaths before sleep. Practice giving yourself positive affirmations. As you breathe, think about something good or positive that will or has happened during the day.   If you start and end your day with a few full breaths from the belly, the benefits of breathing will soon make this a welcome habit each day.
