When we moved to Florida, the first thing we did was buy annual passes to Disney World. Excited to be so close, we wanted to take full advantage of everything Disney. However, we skipped all the holiday parties in the Magic Kingdom because we were unsure if they were worth the extra ticket. Now that we’ve experienced Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party twice, I realized we had missed out.

Disney has put together a party that is fun for all ages, with special parades, fireworks and more.  Find out why we love Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and have made it an annual tradition.

1. Boo To You Halloween Parade

You won't want to miss the parades at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Disney rolls out this special Halloween parade just for the party. It features Mickey and Minnie, Disney princesses and of course, infamous villains such as Malificent and the Evil Queen. There are also other characters you may not expect, such as Wreck It Ralph, Clara Cluck and more. Since there are two parades nightly, you can also take advantage of the fact that the ride lines are shorter during the parade. We saw the first parade from a prime spot on Main Street, then rode some of the more popular rides during the second one.

2. Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

The Hocus Pocus Spelltacular is a one of the7 Of The Best Reasons To Visit Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Disney’s popular Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular returns again in 2018 and you won’t want to miss it! I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I haven’t seen the movie, but I still found the show entertaining and fun. The Sanderson Sisters, along with some of Disney’s most notorious villains, concoct a magic potion meant to cast a spell over everyone in the park. You’ll have to see for yourself if they succeed.

3. Happy HalloWishes Fireworks Show

Best reasons to visit Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party include a spectacular fireworks show.

Happy HalloWishes will also be returning this year! It’s our favorite event of the night because nobody does fireworks quite like Disney! Don’t be tempted by the shorter attraction lines because this show is worth seeing.

Fireworks light up the sky while Cinderella’s castle is lit up with spiderwebs, ghosts and more. A not-so-spooky Disney villain soundtrack plays in the background, adding to the Halloween fun.

4. Character Meet & Greets

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party features special meet and greets.

This is your chance to meet Disney characters that you won’t normally find in the park. Planning ahead is important because you’ll need to line up early to meet popular characters such as Jack Skellington and Sally.

Other special characters include Cinderella’s evil stepsisters, Cruella de Vil, Lotso (from Toy Story) and the seven dwarfs. Of course, you’ll also be able to meet many of the regular characters such as the princesses, Mickey & Minnie, Winnie The Pooh and Tigger and more.

5. Trick Or Treating At Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party hasn't forgotten about the Halloween candy.

What would a Halloween party be without candy? At stations throughout the park, children trick or treat to fill their bags with candy. It’s Disney, so they give out the good stuff (a.k.a. lots of chocolate)!

TMOM Tip: For allergy-free treats, ask a cast member for a teal trick-or-treat bag. Instead of candy, children receive teal tokens to be traded in for allergy free treats at treat stations located at Town Square Theater and Heritage House.

6. Shorter Attraction Lines

One bonus is that the lines are much shorter at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

While a few attractions are closed for the party, there are enough running attractions that you probably won’t even notice. The bonus is the lines are much shorter than during regular hours.

We waited less than 10 minutes to meet Cinderella and Elena. Thunder Mountain and Belle’s Enchanted Tales both had a 15-minute wait, and at the end of the night, we walked right on to Ariel’s Under The Sea. Even the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which usually has wait times well over an hour, had much shorter lines.

7. Halloween Decorations

The decor at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is bright and colorful.

Disney goes all out for the holidays and Halloween is no different. While the decor looks beautiful during the day, even more magical is the park lit up at night. Brightly lit Mickey pumpkins line the streets, ghosts fly across the buildings, and Cinderella’s Castle transforms in front of your eyes.

I’m loving our new Halloween tradition and it’s a great way to squeeze in a little extra family time. Have you been to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party? What are your best reasons to visit Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party?

What Are The Dates For Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2018?

If you’re planning to attend the party, be sure to get your tickets early because the more popular dates often sell out quickly. This year you’ll have 34 party dates to choose from:

  • August 17, 24, 28, 31
  • September 3, 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 28, 30
  • October 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 26, 28, 30, 31

As it gets closer to Halloween, you’re more likely to have a hard time getting tickets.  From what I’ve read, the earlier you plan to go, the easier it is to get tickets. September isn’t too bad, especially if you go during the week. If you plan to go in October, the best advice I can give is to get your tickets early.

Where to Buy Discounted Disney World Tickets

Headed to the Happiest Place on Earth? TravelingMom recommends Undercover Tourist for discounted tickets and this year you can save up to $11 off the adult gate price. These tickets are in addition to regular park admission and you’ll need both to attend.

Is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Worth It?

We love this party and think it’s totally worth the price of the party ticket! It’s an entirely different Disney experience. While some rides are closed for the event, the most popular attractions are open, including the Haunted Mansion, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Space Mountain, The Mad Tea Party and more. Since the crowd is smaller, the waits are much shorter which is one of many perks.

You also get the chance to meet characters that don’t normally make appearances, such as Jack Skellington and Sally, the Seven Dwarfs, Cruella DeVil and more. You may want to pick and choose which characters you want to see most. The character meet and greet lines can get pretty long and you couldn’t possibly meet every one of the 20+ characters expected to appear.
