To get to the hotel from LAX airport by car, visitors should first get on the CA-1 South and then merge onto the 105 East and use the 7B exit to the 110 South. Then, after switching to the 91 East, they take exit 23B for State Highway 39 toward Buena Park.
Our Welcome at the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel
We did call ahead and ask for a feather free, quiet room due to allergies and our son’s autism.
The front desk manager was more than happy to oblige and made sure that our room did not face the park (which, on the night we stayed, was open until 2 a.m. for the Knotts Scary night Halloween celebration). She also made sure that the housekeeping staff checked the room and there were no feather pillows.
The check -in process at around 5 p.m. when we arrived even though there were several people in line at the hotel since the hotel was fully booked for the night. We spent the time we waited in line to take selfies with the zombie characters that walked around the lobby.
The modern design lobby with neutral hues was spacious with plenty of sitting areas. The lobby had festive decorations for Halloween and several zombie characters mingling with unsuspecting guests. There were many fellow families, couples and solo travelers that had come for the Knott’s Scary Halloween event and the Knott’s Spooky event the next day.
Our room on the fourth floor was a nice sized room for a family of four, boasting two queen sized beds with a nightstand between them. Our son was immediately charmed by the snoopy stuffed animal he found in his bed! We also had a small desk table on the side as well as a large chest of drawers with a 42″ TV on top. The carpeted room was well lit with three different area lamps. There was also a large window that had a safety feature so you could only open it partially for air. Finally, there was a wall air conditioning unit to help with the high temperatures of the area during the day. The only challenge we found was the fact the room didn’t have many outlets to plug in electronic devices, so make sure you bring an outlet splitter.
On the side next to the bathroom area, there was a mirrored closet door which was large enough for suitcases and clothing for a family of four. This closet had plenty of hangers and floor space for additional shopping bags.
The bathroom, in neutral beige tones, was split between separate countertop sink area and a curtained tub/commode area with a locking door. This way, one family member could take a shower while another was brushing their teeth which made it convenient in the morning when a visiting family has to rush to the park.
We found the service to be impeccable, starting with the front desk who accommodated us and put us in a quiet room facing the garden per our request. The service continued with the efficient housekeeping staff that showed up with our additional towels and soap when we called less than ten minutes later.
The hotel has a sit-down restaurant ‘Amber Waves’ serving American bistro grub that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is also a souvenir sundries store to purchase small items forgotten while packing. Like many other hotels in Southern California, Knott’s Berry Hotel features a pool with chaise lounges around it and free towels for hotel guests. What makes it unique is that it also boasts a small kid’s splash zone next to the pool.
Kitty corner to the pool, the hotel also has a basketball court and two tennis courts as well as a fitness center for those wishing to exercise before or after visiting the theme parks. Our son enjoyed the fact the pool was mostly deserted the day we visited, and he had the entire place to himself.
As mentioned before, the Amber Waves is a sit-down kid friendly restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We enjoyed a quick dinner before going to the park for the Knott’s Scary Farm event – a delicious turkey burger with boysenberry bbq sauce.
For breakfast, they have either a la carte menu or a buffet featuring typical scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bacon, french toast, cereal, cut up fruit and pastries. Families with picky eaters have the additional choice of going to the nearby Knott’s Marketplace for other options at TGI Fridays or Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Restaraunt for lunch and dinner.
Autism Travel Tips:
- The hotel has rooms facing different areas. So, if you need a quiet room, make sure to call the front desk and ask for a garden view.
- The room has a wall unit air conditioning which is close to one of the beds, so if your child is temperature sensitive take this into consideration.
- We liked the child safety feature with the windows that have restricted opening so kids can’t open them completely.
- Make sure you bring your own anti slip bath mat for the tub since the hotel doesn’t supply one.
- There is a grab bar for the tub, but the shower head is fixed in place.
