The Oxnard River Ridge Residence Inn, a family-friendly three star hotel, is located at 2101 West Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard, California, approximately a mile off the 101 freeway. The hotel is made of multiple buildings (think a mini town house development) containing approximately 252 rooms. It is part of the Residence Inn/Marriott chain. Accommodations at this establishment can be acquired for a night or two, but they are also available on a longer term basis. The budget friendly hotel (rooms range between 110-180 dollars a night) is a favorite for many stopping for the night on the road to LA and is used by the Dallas Cowboys players and families when they train during the summer months.
What Makes it Family Worthy?
This particular Residence Inn is close to both of the local beaches, the nearby downtown area, various shopping spots, and next to a golf course. It is an hour away from Santa Barbara and about a thirty minute drive away from Malibu famous beaches.
The property is a favorite with both couples and families, especially those seeking beach lodging over the summer months.
The exterior resembles a series of housing units more than it does a traditional hotel building, which can be somewhat confusing at first for those staying here. Inside the complex, selectively applied bright hues compliment the overall neutral color scheme. Our room was chiefly decorated in neutral hues, but it also contained brightly blue colored accent pieces and dark hued wooden furnishings throughout.
We stayed in unit 2221, which was a sizable studio apartment on the second floor. The large windows gave the suite an airy and spacious vibe that I especially liked. We also appreciated the fact that the entire suite was very well lit.
A sizable sitting area filled the middle of the room. The furnishings included a convertible sofa (perfect for
kids), a chair, and two tables that were all arranged around a very large flat screen television. As is the case with most hotel rooms that we have occupied, there was also a work desk . Tabletop and floor lamps as well as a rolling desk chair accompanied that particular set up,
The suite’s large bed had a wooden nightstand on either side of it. One of the nightstands held a phone that guests could use to contact either the front desk or other parties. A small balcony was located to one side of the bed. It was easily reached via a sliding glass door that could be covered with curtains to keep out the light while one was sleeping. As parents, we appreciated the door was outfitted with secure locks that could be used to keep kids from wandering out unsupervised and a safety bar that can prevent intruders from gaining access to the room.
The room’s temperature control device was also prominently displayed on the wall. This feature allowed us to easily regulate our own environment from the moment we arrived. Temperature sensitive hotel guests will no doubt benefit from being able to immediately manage the conditions in their suites.
Across the bedroom area was a kitchen and dining room area. with a wooden table and two green chairs where guests could sit and eat their meals. The small but well equipped kitchen featured a refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, and even a microwave. All the necessary dishes and silverware are provided for those staying at these apartments so guests don’t have to bother bringing their own. There is plenty of cabinet space in the kitchen portion of the suite and under the sink there are even some cleaning supplies should guests find that they need them.
We thought the hotel’s unique grocery delivery service, in which the staff brings in any requested edibles while their guests are out and about in the city, was a great idea especially for travelers would were busy or were traveling with special needs kids.
In the back of the apartment, near the bed, was the bathroom. There were also two closets in this area. These spaces proved a good place to keep some of our personal belongings. Under the large bathroom mirror, there was also ample cabinet space that could be used for more storage. Of course, this portion of the hotel room contained the usual furnishings such as an ordinary toilet and a bath area with a combination tub and shower.
The hotel does not have a full time restaurant on its premises but travelers are welcome to partake of the bountiful free hotel breakfast buffet that is served up every morning by the attentive hotel staff.
Tennis courts, an outdoor pool, barbecue facilities, and hot tubs are among the many additional amenities that visitors here can enjoy. Complimentary onsite parking is provided for hotel guests and those that don’t want to leave the premises to obtain cash can stop by the onsite ATM.
Tips for Families with Autism
The property layout is ideal for families looking for quiet rooms to accommodate their kids with autism.Make sure you request a room away from activity centers like pools, golfing and tennis areas for optimum conditions.
.We appreciated the two safety bars in our suite’s bathroom, which ostensibly serve to help bathers enter and exit the tub or shower with ease. However, bath mats are not provided and travelers who need them will want to bring their own. The tiled floor in the bathroom could potentially get slick and slippery at times. Therefore, travelers might want to place a towel or extra bath mat down near the tub to keep from falling victim to any accidents.
