Steamboat GrandThe Steamboat Grand in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is the ideal family getaway any time of year, but most especially in winter when you can’t beat the location.

DestinationReviewLocated next to the base of Steamboat Resort, it’s a short walk to Gondola Square where your skis, snowboards and boots are stored compliments of the hotel. A priceless convenience when you have young ones who don’t like to carry their own equipment, and can’t wait to get out of those ski boots!

Our first morning out to the slopes was made smoother by the fact that we could rent ski equipment for our  six-year-old daughter, Reagan, right there in the hotel at Steamboat Ski & Sport. No lines. And at the end of our last day at the resort, we dropped her equipment off at the Ski Time Square shop location right at the base. Easy peasy.

Steamboat LivingRoomThis was our second stay at the Steamboat Grand, and the first time we had the pleasure of staying in a condo. For our summer stay, we had a standard hotel room – also very nice. The difference between the two was just the addition of a second room, accessible through an adjoining door and a separate keyed entrance. What a difference a whole other room makes!

Our second room was a living area and kitchenette. A kitchenette to prepare a quick dinner in is always a bonus when you come home from a long day on the slopes, and makes grabbing breakfast in the morning much faster.

The fireplace in our living area was enough to keep both rooms warm and toasty. I just loved being able to warm up next to it and enjoy the view out our picture windows at the same time.

The pool is always super-important when traveling with kids, and the Steamboat Grand’s pool doesn’t disappoint. We were fortunate to have a room overlooking the pool, which was just as spectacular at night dimly lit by colorful lights. When we weren’t snowboarding, the three of us were soaking in the giant hot tubs.

Reagan also loves the sauna and steam room (I know, she’s not your typical six-year-old), which provide indoor access to the heated outdoor pool.

The Pool Side Bistro was perfect for a snack and downtime drink while we relaxed before bedtime.

No need to drive downtown to enjoy the shopping, dining and nightlife – The Steamboat Grand has complimentary transportation within the city limits of Steamboat Springs.

The Steamboat Grand offers a beautiful, full service spa and well-equipped fitness center – which we regretfully didn’t find time for during our stay.

Complimentary wireless internet – always a biggie for me!

After just two stays at the Steamboat Grand, it’s already starting to feel like a home away from home for us. Cozy accomodations, great service and an attentive staff make it all the more likely we will be returning again and again.
