Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel Review

Traveling to popular destinations is always exciting, but deciding on a place to stay can sometimes be overwhelming because of all the hotel and lodging options.  When our kids have a Friday or Monday off of school, we take advantage of them and frequently do a staycation or mini getaway to a nearby area. This last month we visited the Conejo Valley area and stayed at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza.

The Hotel

The Hyatt Westlake Plaza is located in the heart of the Conejo Valley about 40 miles west of Los Angeles making it an easy 90 minute drive from central Orange County. Upon walking in the hotel the resort-like feel struck us all right away. The Hyatt Westlake Plaza is a lovely combination of high end guest accommodations and the space and beautiful accommodations needed for business and wedding events. We could immediately tell that the customer service would match the high end feel we felt upon entering; the staff was very attentive and guest-focused throughout our entire stay.TMOM Travel DisclosureAffiliate dislosure

Our Room

A feature that is very important to us as a traveling family is space. My husband and I are early birds and enjoy that quiet time in the morning before our children wake. Thus, lying in a bed in the dark morning hours trying to be quiet while our kids sleep nearby is not the ideal “getaway” for us.

The Hyatt Westlake Plaza has a large suite which offered us a ton of space, not only for sleeping, but for hanging out together, watching TV, and playing games. There was a nice office desk area where we could juice up our devices with a large sitting area and dining table with seating for four. The dining area meant we could also eat comfortably in the room and opened up meal options for us by grabbing take out and bringing it back to the room to eat in comfort.

Because we were staying for a few nights, we also added an adjoining room to our reservation allowing the children to sleep in their own room. It was the perfect set up!

Hyatt Westlake Plaza offers spacious meeting rooms and a beautiful outdoor area for weddings. Parking is free and complimentary WiFi is included for guests which is always a nice bonus. Everyone in our family found it easy to set up and use. There is also a 24 hour fitness center with a number of machines to use.

Having an on-site restaurant like Harvest Kitchen and Bar that delivers farm fresh ingredients right inside a hotel is certainly a great amenity which is not often found. The outdoor lounge area with multiple fire pits adds a festive SoCal atmosphere to the hotel too. The Grab and Go Station located by Harvest Kitchen is a really nice alternative to the typical hotel kiosk room that is filled with waters and snacks. The Station also offers healthy options like smoothies and fresh fruit, and choices like these can make all the difference in a vacation for families.

Two amenities we did not get a chance to check out, but sound amazing, are the fitness concierge and massage therapist. These would be a must if you are traveling with teens and can get time away for yourselves.

Hyatt Westlake Plaza Quality

Harvest Kitchen and Bar deserves its own special attention in this review because the in hotel restaurant offers high quality food right on property. The restaurant offers healthy meals made with locally sourced ingredients for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu selection is a nice mix of the foods you depend on having for children along with enhanced menu items. The result leaves you feeling as though you are not really dining at a restaurant in a hotel.

In fact, while we were at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza we noticed many people coming simply to dine at Harvest Kitchen. We recommend walking down in the morning to grab coffee and breakfast for your children that you can take back to your room to enjoy. The breakfast meals were incredible and our
kids loved breakfast in bed; we as parents loved breakfast in bed without room service prices.

There are also two private dining rooms and an outdoor patio area with fire pits which are great for gathering with friends.

What Doesn’t Work For Families

Honestly, there really isn’t much that does not work for families. When staying at the hotel during a larger event, just be prepared for it to feel busier. There was a reception going on one evening we were there which was right in the center of the main open atrium outside the restaurant. This made it difficult to navigate to the elevators and made dining at the restaurant less enjoyable because it was so loud.

What Works For Families

  • On site restaurant
  • Multiple connecting room set ups to fit different budgets
  • Heated pool
  • Workout facility with space for everyone
  • Close proximity to shopping and restaurants
  • Restaurants and shopping within walking distance
  • Hiking and biking trails and activities to do in the area
  • 40 miles from Malibu and surrounding beaches and parks
  • A comfortable hotel with a resort like feel
  • Affordable price point
