Are you looking for a RunDisney hotel option at the Disneyland Resort? Or a hotel for an Anaheim business trip with a side of Disneyland fun? The Anaheim Marriott fits the bill in both situations. Both groups will appreciate comfy beds with a Starbucks on site!
I’ve stayed at the Anaheim Marriott twice in the past few years, once for the Star Wars Half Marathon at Disneyland and once for the Cars 3 red carpet premiere held at the Anaheim Convention Center. Both stays were comfortable and the hotel worked well for my itinerary.
The Anaheim Marriott is right next door to the Anaheim Convention Center, making it a popular choice for business travelers and families loyal to Marriott. It’s located near the Disneyland resort, making it a great option when the family tags along on a work trip.
Technically you could walk from the Anaheim Marriott to Disneyland, but I don’t consider it a walkable hotel option. You will do plenty of walking at Disneyland; there is no need to wear out your feet prematurely. The Anaheim Resort Transportation shuttle is an option many families opt to use. You can purchase single ticket, single day and multi-day passes. During my stay for the Star Wars Half Marathon, RunDisney participants were given free passes for the ART shuttle. While I am generally not a fan of shuttles, my tired feet happily accepted the free ride.
Traveling Mom Tip: Consider an Uber or Lyft when you are headed to Disneyland.
Uber rides were under $6 to Disneyland (June 2017) and were a much better option. Depending on your family/group size, how many times you plan on going back to your room and the length of your stay, taking an Uber or Lyft might be a better deal. And honestly, my time is worth some money too, so I’d opt for an Uber even if it meant paying a little more overall.
I’ve stayed in both the 2 Double and 1 King rooms and found both more than comfortable for 2 adults. It might get tight if you have more than one child with you unless they are younger. Connecting rooms are available as well as a rollaway bed for a nominal fee. All rooms include new mattresses and comfy bedding, making them extremely comfortable and perfect after a long day in the parks or long run through the parks. The size of the room also accommodated a large work desk and oversized chair. All rooms have a mini fridge and some rooms have a small balcony.
The hotel recently completed a $15 million renovation and it shows from the lobby to the guest rooms. The lobby was large and contemporary with plenty of seating style options. The lobby was a popular gathering place for guests and visitors throughout the day and late into the evening. There is also a heated outdoor pool and fitness center on site. I stayed here without kids both times, but am happy to say an onsite laundry room is available if necessary.
Traveling Mom Trip: I always pack laundry soap and quarters in case we have a laundry emergency.
The Anaheim Marriott is the only hotel I have been to with digital elevator controls. The lack of floor buttons inside the elevators might confuse some people at first. Just be sure to get on the elevator assigned to your floor and you won’t have any problems. It’s a super cool feature for any technology geeks out there, but it might take some people a little time to get used to it.
The renovations include a new dining option, the nFuse Bar & Kitchen. The nFuse Bar & Kitchen is perfect for business meetings and social gatherings, offering handcrafted cocktails and California cuisine with a variety of seating options.
The hotel offers food delivery rather than room service. You can opt to pick up your meal order downstairs at nFuse in the lobby or, for an additional $5, have someone bring up your order to your room. The food comes in a functional designed bag that will break apart into a placemat for the food. I ordered food delivery several times and was happy with the food and service. It was very convenient for me on busy mornings and well worth the $5 delivery fee.
If you splurge for the concierge level, then you can count on saving quite a bit of money if you take advantage of the lounge benefits. The lounge offers a hot buffet breakfast, midday snack, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, late night snack and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages. Note: only breakfast is offered on Friday and Saturday. If you are an Elite Marriott Rewards member you might get upgraded to this level (I did!).
For families that like to grab and go, a Pizza Hut and Starbucks are also on site. The gift shop also offered a variety of snack options as well.
What Works For Families
- 24-hour dining options
- Laundry room on site
- Close to Disneyland
- Mini fridge in the room
- Connecting rooms and rollaway beds are available
What Doesn’t Work For Families
- Not in walking distance to the Disneyland Resort
- Smaller rooms
- Business focused hotel that lacks kid amenities or theming
For a regular family vacation to Disneyland, I prefer offsite hotels that are within walking distance the Disneyland and offer more kid-friendly amenities like themed rooms or special water play areas. However, depending upon the circumstances of our visit, I would happily stay at the Anaheim Marriott again with my family.
