Last Fall Chris (Standby TravelingMom) and I had a great Girlfriends Weekend Getaway at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. One of the highlights of our trip was a sneak peek at the cooking classes Chef Evan is offering in 2011. I have taken quite a few cooking classes (not that anyone can tell) and this was one of my favorites. I loved it because it was so relaxed. To be honest, when I take a cooking class, I really don’t want to actually cook! I want to learn some new tips and techniques, drink some wine, and have some time with friends. This class delivered in all those areas.
Held in the newly opened Yager House, this intimate cooking/demonstration kitchen has a cabin-in-the-wilderness kind of charm. Guests enjoy a glass of wine while being entertained by Chef Evan as he shares his inside secrets, prepping and cooking tips, recipes and anecdotes. Every class include a demonstration followed by a three-course dinner of what was being prepared, recipe book, Devil’s Thumb Ranch signature chef’s apron and wine pairings.
You can hear the fun my friends and I are all having as we listen to Chef Evan tell us his story while watching him masterly section an orange. This is the essence of what I loved about the class. The casual fun, easy laughing and great food.
By the way, I took home THREE great gluten free recipes from this event that I actually used at Thanksgiving! So, total score here! I learned, I laughed, I drank some wine….. I forgot about being a special needs mom for a bit!
