If location is your priority, the best value lodging in Winter Park, Colorado is at Founders Pointe and Fraser Crossing. Winter or summer, these sister properties are just a 150 yard walk to the Village at Winter Park and base area where there’s always something exciting going on.
The base at Winter Park turns into a family playground in summer, with Colorado’s longest Alpine slide, mini golf, a human maze and more. There is even a free family outdoor movie night every Friday. And the Village is always the perfect destination for a bite to eat, shopping or just taking a leisurely stroll.
Our studio condominium at Founders Pointe was plenty spacious enough for the three of us and had a generous sized kitchenette area. One, two and three-bedroom condos are also available, and come equipped with a kitchenette or full kitchen, gas fireplaces and private decks. All rooms also have at least one king size bed and a sofa sleeper, which means our studio condo could sleep up to four people. The free WiFi and large flat screen LCD TV’s are always welcome amenities for our family.
Our room overlooked the hot tub and community grill area on the third floor, and also had great views of the mountains at the base. While there is no pool, my family was not disappointed. We spend most of our time in the hot tub anyway and this one was extra large and just the right temperature.
As large as our room was, I was surprised at the lack of drawer space. Besides the two nightstands, the only drawers available were a couple that were part of the TV stand. Not a big issue for us since we were only staying for one night and it was summer. But, I wondered what a family of four in the wintertime would do with all their layers of clothing and ski gear? The closet had a scant amount of hangers, so bring your own if you plan to hang most of your clothing.
Be aware that each condominium is privately owned, so you will not have maid service during your stay. And a piece of advice: if at all possible, bring your own towels. The towels provided at the hot tub and also in the room are tiny and as hard and scratchy as sand paper. Bed linens were a bit skimpy as well and had it been winter, I would’ve needed an extra blanket.
Overall, Founders Pointe and Fraser Crossing are a great value for families whose number one priority is location, location, location!
