San Antonio may be most known for its Riverwalk and the Alamo, but it has many other attractions that draw families from far and wide and one of the biggest is SeaWorld.
Don’t be fooled by the apparent simplicity of the park map – it could easily take two days to fully explore all SeaWorld San Antonio has to offer. There was plenty to entertain our whole family ranging in ages from almost 2 to 60+.
We started with the Azul dolphin show, which was absolutely astounding. The skill of the performers and choreography kept us on the edge of our seats. And getting sprayed was welcome on one of the hottest days of the year.
We then spent some time at the Elmo Bay of Play, where my 6-year-olds rode the roller coaster and other small rides several times (the toddler even attempted one). They also had fun on the climbing area in there. There is an awesome splash park too.
Unfortunately we didn’t make the afternoon Shamu show we were planning as the toddler apparently requested to see the 4D Elmo movie that was at the same time. The big kids, 6 years old formerly terrified of 4D movies, LOVED this one, which was very kid friendly.
We took advantage of the twins’ growing height to ride the Steel Eel roller coaster (one LOVED it while his brother tolerated it), as well as the Atlantis log ride (which has a splash area that’s almost as fun as the ride). By the time we got on the log ride, the lines were getting way long, the heat was getting to us and we decided to call it a day.
We didn’t even get to the Lost Lagoon, which on the map at least looks like more fun. As I said more time is needed to get the most out of SeaWorld San Antonio.
Plan well in the summer – drink plenty of water and prepare for crowds. Take advantage of the refillable cups. They cost $10 initially, but refills around the park are only $0.99 (water is free).
If you’re carrying a iPhone, the SeaWorld park app is a must for a handy interactive map that lets you know wait times as well as show times. And for those who might be prone to losing their car, the app also lets you program the location for an easier departure after a long day playing.
