Naples, Florida is a picture perfect beach town. The family friendly atmosphere makes it’s an ideal place to vacation with the kids. It’s a family favorite because it’s not a party town like many of the beach towns in Florida. Don’t let the family friendly atmosphere fool you, though. You can still find plenty of fun things to do without the kids!
3 Reasons to Get a Babysitter and Relax when Visiting Naples, FL
Vacationing with kids is an oxymoron, right? It’s almost impossible to relax when you’ve got the kids to take care of on vacation. This is because kids are a full time job, even on vacation. While it’s certainly fun to take vacations as a family, it’s always nice to have a night out. Naples, and all of Southwest Florida, is a great place to explore as a family. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a date night though! The city has plenty to offer just for adults.
Naples is a resort town and it’s teaming with locals in the service industry who want to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. This includes babysitters. Babysitting sites like Care.com and Sitterly make it easy to find a reputable babysitter on your vacation. If you can find someone to watch the kids, why not treat yourself to a night out?
Here are three reasons why you should get a babysitter when visiting Naples, FL.
Top Rated Restaurants
Anyone who has ever traveled with kids knows how hard it is to take them out to restaurants for every meal. It’s gets old to eat every meal at family friendly restaurants, especially when one of the perks of traveling is to enjoy new food like these loaded truffle fries from Sea Salt, only 2 blocks from the Naples pier.
Naples offers many quality dining options that cater more to adults than kids. Sure, you can always risk taking the kids to a five star restaurant, but it’s not as enjoyable. Plus, who really wants to spend a ton of money on an overpriced kids meal? If you hire a sitter you can enjoy your dinner and partake in grown up conversation!
There are great restaurants all over Naples, but if you want to see the small town charm, you’ll want to walk along 5th Avenue South or the historic 3rd Street district and check out all the unique and locally owned restaurants. You can find everything from Italian to seafood, many of which have high Zagat ratings.
The Benefit Scene is Hopping
At almost every time of the year, and even more so in the winter months, you can find a charitable organization putting together a fun social event. This is a great way to see the town and get a feel for how much the locals care for the world.
We attended The Grape Celebration, put on by the Naples Children’s Education Foundation. This is the same foundation that puts together the Naples Winter Wine Festival. The wine festival is an internationally renowned event that starts at $10,000 a couple! For only $50 a person we were able to attend The Grape Celebration and try out over 50 different wines and eat food from a local chef. All proceeds went to benefit children in Naples.
In season, which is October through March, you can find events like this every single week. It’s a cost effective way to try local food and be entertained during your visit to Naples. Pick up a local paper, or ask your hotel concierge for a list of local events that occur during your visit.
Romantic Walks on the Beach
Walking the beach with the kids is amazing, right? It’s so much fun to watch the kids look for shells and play in the water. However, if you have young kids, the beach can be anything but relaxing. Sometimes it’s nice to leave the kids behind and take in the scenery with your partner, or even alone!
Imagine walking the beach without worrying about watching out for your child’s safely. It’s a pretty wonderful feeling! I think they call it relaxing. Isn’t that what vacation is all about anyway? A walk on the beach is a great excuse to hire a babysitter and order pizza for the kids while they watch a movie. If you go at sunset you can get a fun sunset selfie like the one below!
Naples is home to over seven miles of white sandy beaches. There are many different beach access points ranging from parks with full access facilities and water sports to more pristine nature preserves with boardwalks. The western facing beaches ensure that you see a beautiful sunset every night. The painting of colors in the sky at sunset make for the most perfect romantic walk on the beach.
Not a fan of sunset? I’m not sure how that is even possible, but mornings and midday are just as beautiful in Naples. If you wake up early enough while it’s still cool you can see lots of sea life such as the Florida conch and the 10 armed sea star. If you visit between May and October it’s possible that you will even see one of the hundreds of loggerhead sea turtles that make the trek back to Naples beaches to nest. At almost any time of the day you can see dolphins and manatees swimming around in the turquoise Gulf of Mexico.
With so much to do in Naples, Florida without the kids, you may just have to book a romantic getaway for your next trip!
