The Woodlands Texas is a lovely oasis outside of Houston.  It offers an array of activities for the family or makes the ideal escape for just the two of you.  From water sports to concerts to amazing shopping and spas, you can find it all.  While there are a variety of hotels to choose from for all budgets, we do have our top three favorites that can add a little luxury to your escape.

Living in Austin, Texas for many years, we spent a lot of time vacationing in the state.  One of our favorite areas was and actually still is The Woodlands outside of Houston.  Not only did we vacation there often, but my triathlete husband raced there multiple times for Ironman Texas.  While we always found plenty to do with the family, it was also a great couple’s getaway if we really didn’t want to do much but relax at a nice hotel.  Here are our favorites.

Top Hotel Choices in The Woodlands Texas

The Woodlands Resort

If you are looking for a great resort for a family and pet-friendly getaway with tons of activities for kids and adults of all ages, then check out The Woodlands Resort.  While it’s a bit farther away, it’s worth it in our book and you actually never have to leave if you don’t want to.  It’s a true family getaway with ample recreation options, good food, kids activities, and much more.  It’s on the larger side at over 400 rooms, but most offer views of the pool or the golf course and offer all of our favorite amenities, including free wifi, and can accommodate up to four guests.

One of our favorite activities is the Forest Oasis Waterescape. Your kids – and probably you, too – will never want to leave.  You can race down the water slide, do underwater treasure hunts, float down the lazy river, enjoy dive in movie night, or sit in the hot tub.  But be sure to also take advantage of golf, tennis, the 24/7 fitness center, the spa, and the over 200 miles of hiking and biking trails in The Woodlands.  There’s also multiple dining options from water side to fine dining.

The Woodlands Waterway Marriott

If you want to be at a larger hotel close to all of the action, then hands down, our favorite place to stay is The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.  There are many room types, but we suggest making sure you get one big enough to spread out and one that overlooks the Waterway.

The hotel has plenty of options for dining and drinking, including a wonderful outdoor fire-pit area.  It of course offers an outdoor pool and hot tub, along with a fitness center and spa.  We also love that it is a short walk to all of the shopping areas and great restaurants, not to mention being right across the street from the Cynthia Woods Pavillion and it’s great concerts.

Hyatt Centric

We actually stayed at the Hyatt Centric a few years back and loved it.  Located in the Market Street area, the hotel is central to tons of cute boutiques and restaurants.  If you’re looking for a small (70 rooms) more modern, but swanky and fun hotel, then you can’t go wrong with this choice.  The location makes it easy to hit everything on foot.  There’s also a 24 hour fitness center, an infinity pool, and fire pit on the premises, with complimentary wifi access.

We loved just hanging out at the infinity pool all day and then enjoying a nice dinner and a bit of shopping at night.  The rooms are either standard or suites.  We highly recommend the suites, especially if you are with the family or doing a race, as you’ll have plenty of room to spread out all of your stuff and leave you room to just hangout.

Don’t forget you CAN leave your hotel and find a variety of activities to occupy your time.  Plus, you can always explore the Houston area if you must or hit more of central Texas as there is so much to see and do!
