My brother got married recently in Charlotte, North Carolina. This was the perfect excuse for me to explore the city. During that time I went to a couple of restaurants that were recommended to me and had a great time at both. I would highly recommend them. Read on to find out why!

I recently visited Charlotte in North Carolina with my sons and husband for my brother’s wedding. My WHOLE family got to the city to celebrate my brother’s big day – his wedding. A huge, momentous occasion.

Bu I decided that I would take this opportunity to also spend a couple of days exploring Charlotte. As a foodie I love visiting some of the representative restaurants of the cities I visit. This time I found two that I especially enjoyed.

Pike’s Old Fashion Soda Shop

My sons grew in Guatemala so they know nothing about the traditional American Soda Shops. So when I heard that there was one called Pike’s Old Fashioned Soda Shop in Charlotte NC near where we would be staying, I made it a top priority stop for my kids and me.

I’m a huge fan of old fashioned anything. And it’s been years since I’ve visited a typical, 50’s style soda shop.

And what is THE thing you get at soda shops? Milk Shakes! The ones at Pike’s did not disappoint.

The kids menu has tons to choose from, making the younger ones happy. In the adults menu you get to choose your main meal and sides. I decided to get one of their top dishes: Honey Pecan Fried Chicken. It was so yummy!

It was an amazing experience for all of us!

The decoration consists of a marble counter, a soda fountain, craftsman-made stools and booths. It looks like a classic diner.

The menu consists of a variety of salads, sandwiches, burgers, other homestyle dishes, milkshakes, sundaes and banana splits.

Nan and Byron’s Restaurant

Before this trip, I hadn’t seen my grandma or spent any quality time with her, just the two of us, for a long time. I couldn’t even remember when it last happened; it must have been over ten years ago.

We live in different countries and I have a family of my own, so spending time with her and all my loved ones can be extremely hard.

I was so happy to get the chance to finally take grandma out for lunch. I took the chance one day while everyone was busy getting dresses, trying on tuxedos, rehearsing, and finishing other details for the wedding.

For this trip, I got tons of help from Kristen who works for the Charlotte’s Tourism Board. She recommended the Nan and Byron’s Restaurant. I mentioned this to my sister-in-law (she is from Charlotte) and she instantly said it was one of her favorites.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the restaurant was that it is absolutely adorable.

They specialize in American fare and cocktails. My grandma ordered a delicious mushroom soup and a salad full of shrimps. I went for the meatloaf sandwich. The food was awesome, but spending time with my grandma was an unexpected gift and I’m so happy I took the chance to go with her. We totally enjoyed our meal, and each other.
