Fun is the only word that comes to mind when describing my family’s visit to JB’s on the Beach Restaurant in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
We were visiting my parents in West Palm Beach for the third year in a row and I decided it was time to explore something else other than City Place. So I started looking for restaurants in neighboring towns. Deerfield Beach seemed to have a laid back, surfer feel with plenty of restaurants directly on the beach.
My family and I have visited many restaurants that say they are on the beach. This usually means one of two things: you get a great view or you need to walk a few hundred feet to get to the ‘actual’ beach. In this case, we found that in this restaurant the action was happening RIGHT ON THE BEACH.
I am not sure why but just being on the boardwalk, looking at the pier and hearing the waves crashing near you makes you feel relaxed and good.

Before telling you all about the delicious food we had here, let’s take a quick tour.
If you have come here you know that there is minimum parking ever here. So the first thing I liked was that they have cheap valet parking.
As soon as I entered the restaurant I noticed how big it was. I loved that it was spacious and with a great design. The outdoor seating where we sat is also huge, but it gets filled up really fast. I would advice to make a reservation if you want outdoor seating.
If you come here during the weekends or holidays you will find live music outside, close to the bar area. We chose a table on the other side and then enjoyed the band when taking a slow walk on the boardwalk.
Are you ready to get super hungry?
You won’t find the typical seafood style meals here. The chefs really make an effort to create explosive flavor combinations.
Drinks – You can’t go to a beach hang out and not get tropical drinks.
We went a bit nuts with the drinks. I think the atmosphere does that to you. I ordered a mango madness frozen cocktail.
My husband ordered a Coconut mojito – They specialize in lots of unique flavored mojitos.
After my mango drink I had to jump on the wagon and decided to order a mojito too, I got a berry mojito. Living in Central America and even visiting Cuba I thought I tried some good mojitos. But I have to say, the berry one was really great.
For the food part I did what I like to do in every new restaurant I visit. I asked about the most popular and signature dishes. We had a really fun waiter who told us all about them. The restaurant had several dishes that they are known for so we had to narrow it down.
First we got a tomato and mozzarella salad. The plate was over a foot long!
We then got the coconut shrimp. The shrimp were huge.
Then scallops, these were dynamite. It was the best dish I had ever eaten anywhere. These scallops are served on the actual shell and doused in a creamy, smooth sauce. I swear I could have ordered ten more of these.
We also had crab cakes. I have never been a fan of these but the waiter really recommended it. At JB’s they are served either in appetizer form or as a full meal. We enjoyed the appetizer sized one which was quite large, considering all the food we had already.
For our grand finale we got a main dish of lobster and shrimp salad. This was the perfect treat for us, it wasn’t heavy, and the shrimp and lobster were delicious.
To compensate for all of the salads I got banana cream pie, but when I was about to ask for more my husband literally had to tell me enough. It was truly that creamy and melted in your mouth.

The drive from my parent’s house was around 45 minutes, which was fine for me but my boys got really bored. So when we arrived I was trying to figure out what to offer my kids to keep them happy at the restaurant. Luckily, the decoration saved me, with the huge sailboat hanging off the ceiling and life size fish on the walls, they completely forgot about being moody. Sitting outside also helped, they were able to run around on the boardwalk and beach just seconds away from me. They were happy playing around and happy kids mean happy parents. A huge bonus was that they ate without moaning once.
