Have you ever headed to Universal Orlando bright and early with really excited children, only to wait in an insanely long, slow line at a Universal Orlando ticket or Will Call window? Well starting today, you can purchase and redeem your tickets right in The Official Universal Orlando Resort App. But is that enough in today’s technology-driven society?

Universal Orlando ticket purchase and redemption now offered in-app.

Universal Orlando introduces new in-app ticket purchase and redemption, allowing you to skip the ticket window.

When It’s All About the App

For locals, or those buying tickets last-minute, the in-app purchase can be a time-saver. Once you purchase your Universal Orlando tickets within the app, simply head to the gate with your phone, navigate to “My Tickets” in the app, and scan it to enter. You can purchase tickets for multiple family members in the app, but you can not access annual passes or tickets bought online. Only tickets bought in the app can be accessed from the app.

Universal Orlando's in-app ticket purchasing is a step in the right direction.

Universal Orlando’s in-app ticket purchasing is a step in the right direction.

While this is a tiny step in the right direction, Universal is woefully behind the times when it comes to ticketing technology.

Many people who plan a vacation to Universal Orlando buy a package deal or purchase their tickets ahead of time online. If you buy a package or book through a travel agent, you’ll need to go to Will Call to get your tickets. Buying online and printing your tickets at home is currently the fastest way to get into the parks. And Universal’s paper tickets and Express Passes still fall short of Disney World’s incredible Magic Band technology that allows you to enter, use Fast Passes, store restaurant reservations, and purchase anything in the parks.

Still, Brain Fitness Traveling Mom Alli Berman says, “BRAVO – A round of applause for making the Will Call process easy-peasy! I had to deal with the Will Call windows at Universal a few months ago and waited almost ONE HOUR on line… and there were just 6 people ahead of me!! Any solution that allows people to go directly to the turnstiles is a wonderful addition. The new Universal Orlando ticket in-app is a no-brainer, wonderful move on their part!”

Me? I’m looking forward to the time when we can use fingerprints, wrist bands, or phones to gain access quickly and easily to just about everything.
