Before my recent trip to Savannah, I knew almost nothing about this southern city. What I did know were only two things: southern hospitality and that Clint Eastwood made a movie about a murder of dramatic proportions.

In most cases, not knowing is good for me because it allows the place to completely surprise me.

But for some reason I didn’t think that Savannah was going to surprise me as much as it did.

Because I didn’t know anything about it I wasn’t sure about where to start searching for hotels. As I researched I learned that this is a city where some of the most historical events of the U.S. occurred. And that the original 22 squares parks still remained.

TMOM disclosure graphicOne thing that truly helped me was belonging to many travel groups on Facebook. I was able to get tons of great recommendations. A recurring recommendation was the Holiday Inn Express Savannah on Bay Street. I figured I couldn’t go wrong with that recommendation. So I contacted them.

Why Holiday Inn Express Savannah Surprised Me

This was going to be one of the rare times when my husband and go on a romantic getaway. My boys don’t like staying with just anyone but they do love staying with my parents and we took advantage of that. I was really looking forward to our time in Georgia, especially in Savannah.

I had stayed in a Holiday Inn before but it was about 10 years ago, and the only thing I remembered about this hotel chain is how clean it was, plus they usually have good locations.

Well, they must have done some serious rebranding, because, wow!

First of all, the hotel was located in one of the best spots. It is across the street from the River Walk. This shows how little I knew about Savannah, because I had no idea that it has one of the best river walks in the country.

Secondly, it was really close to all the main attractions and all the squares and parks. I was able to walk everywhere.

Thirdly, it isn’t just a chain hotel where everything looks generic, it was a luxurious hotel now, not 5 starts but still luxury.

Fourthly, the top floors have great river views. That’s where we stayed.

Fifthly, there is a great rooftop lounge. They had a pool, lounge area and gym.

Sixthly, the service was true, genuine, southern hospitality. It was great!

Seventhly, the breakfast was included in the price. It consisted of a small buffet and everything I tried was delicious!

Eighthly, I would recommend this hotel to everyone.
