Has the idea of staying on a Marina crossed your mind? But, not just on a sailboat but in a luxury condo as well.

That’s exactly the kind of choices you have to make while looking for a cool place to stay on the Florida Keys. These are the truly tough choices!

My main goal as I planned our mini-honeymoon to the Florida Keys was to try to find a Marina where we could stay. Because staying in just any Inn isn’t what a romantic getaway is about, is it? Finally, after a lot of time researching I narrowed it down to only two options: a sailboat on Key Largo and the Stock Island Marina Village in Key West.

It can be a lot of fun to stay on a sailboat but they are tiny and I am not a sailor. So I decided to stay on it only for one night. At the same time I didn’t want to compromise my stay at a Marina, that’s how I ended up finding the most adorable village.

DisclosureTMOMAfter a delicious meal at Hogfish Bar and Grill, which is right in front of the Stock Island Marina Village, the owner of the restaurant was nice enough to give us a tour of the area. We fell in love with this place and wanted to stay in it. So he turned us on to the vacation rental.

One of his good friends, Mike Bullock, owns a luxury three bedroom condo which we immediately agreed to stay in.

Why We Decided to Stay on the Stock Island Marina Village

If you have read any of the articles I have written about accommodations you probably learned that I love unique places to stay and eat for each location we visit. This village was just that: bursting with history and uniqueness.

Historical Background

  • Stock Island used to be the place where Cuban ferries boarded, back in peaceful times.
  • It was also where the ex-headquarters for the Bay of Pigs operation was held.
  • I case that wasn’t enough, one of the owners of a trailer and dock space bought the sinking Jackie Onassis yacht (Jackie O) and is rebuilding it.
  • But there is more: Mel Fisher, the most famous treasure hunter that has existed, keeps his boar here.

All of this was on our back yard for our accommodations in Key West.

Our Condo and Neighborhood

You needed to pass through a small electric gate to be able to get into the Marina with a car, or a rented a Harley Davidson in our case. The remote comes with the rental and you can park right in front.

Our condo had water on the front and in the back, as well as sitting areas on both sides.

Condo Layout

Our condo had a full kitchen, a dining room, a super cozy living room with full entertainment center, three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

As you can see, it is a pretty big house. All of the areas are very roomy. You can easily fit six people here comfortably. There is also a housekeeping service, which is a rare find in vacation rentals.

As awesome as the house was, my favorite part was the village. I’ve never seen so many houseboats.

My Take On It

I can’t imagine staying somewhere else when visiting the Keys. This is the way to go! Nothing is better than waking up to a sunrise over the water.
