One of Nashville’s greatest tourist attractions, the beautiful Gaylord Opryland hotel, has reopened in full glory just in time for the holidays. This month’s grand reopening event is occurring just six months after the iconic hotel was closed for extensive repairs to damage sustained during the historic flooding in Nashville in early May. Opryland is a must see for families visiting Nashville and the holidays are when the hotel really shines. There are 2 million holiday lights in the outdoor decorations alone.
Gaylord Opryland is celebrating its grand reopening with several events planned as part of its 27th annual A Country Christmas, including their outdoor holiday light display, a free Nashville family favorite. It’s fun just to put on your walking shoes and explore the interior of the hotel on foot. We took our girls, ages 8 and 5, in March and they were amazed by the beauty of the hotel. I can’t wait to take them to see this year’s holiday decorations. The Cascades Atrium and Garden Conservatory Atrium will feature nearly 200,000 indoor lights and 15,000 poinsettias, plus a gorgeous 40-foot Christmas tree in the Delta Atrium.
Here are my family outing suggestions for celebrating the season at Gaylord Opryland:
Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes
Nashville is known for country performers, but during the holidays the world-famous Radio City Rockettes bring their legendary eye-high kicks and a cast and crew of more than 100 to town in America’s #1 Holiday Show, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
ICE! featuring Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town
New in 2010 is ICE! featuring characters from the classic holiday special Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, which I remember watching when I was a kid. More than 30 artisans from China arrived in October to handcraft almost 2 million pounds of ice into the larger-than-life ice sculptures for ICE!
New in 2010 – SNOW!
This is the attraction I am most excited about sharing with my girls. We don’t get much snow in Nashville so they will love it.This outdoor winter wonderland will feature live reindeer on display, a snow maze, a snowball throwing range, and igloo building.
