Atlanta was a place where my husband and I had a culinary experience beyond any other. To us, New York City and Boston had nothing on Atlanta. And Atlanta proved to be a city of firsts!
I say this was a city of firsts because my husband and I never visited a gastropub restaurant before. In fact, I never even heard of them before I did my research for this trip.
While doing my search this one restaurant kept popping up! It had great reviews everywhere so I had to make a reservation at Cook Hall Atlanta Restaurant. I was expecting great things but I got a lot more than I expected.
Why Cook Hall Atlanta is a Must Visit for Places to Eat in Atlanta
The restaurant is located in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta inside the W Atlanta Hotel. Aside from being a great location it also means that you get valet service for your car.
This wasn’t like every other restaurant from a hotel that caters only to guests. It almost seemed like it was completely separate. Most of the clients looked more like locals than tourists. I thought it was a good sign.
But what is gastropub? If I got it right during my research, it’s similar to what the Spanish call Tapas, which is kind of like finger food. However, the style is a little different. What made it unique and perfect for us was the fact that the portions are small so we got the chance to order tons of their dishes.
We were also lucky enough to visit at a time when Bojan, the beverage manager, was around. He created more than half of the drinks on the cocktail menu. So we asked for a few recommendations. I wanted to know which drinks went better with the dishes we were about to order. We definitely followed his advice for every dish. Just by doing something as simple as asking, our experience became so much better.
Experience of a Gastropub Dinner (What We Ordered)
They had so many tasty choices that I was extremely grateful for the portion sizes. I was able to order more than we normally would.
• Marinated Olives, Focaccia & Hummus
• Deviled Eggs with Gulf Blue Crab
• Popcorn Shrimp with real popcorn as part of the crust
• Crispy Duck Taco, Chipotle Coleslaw
Main Dishes – Even the main dishes aren’t your typical sized plates. We were able to get some yummy sides too.
• Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron, Avocado, Salsa Verde & Lime
• Slow Roasted Winter Flounder, Spiced Bok Choy, Citrus Soy
• Caramelized Cauliflower, Hummus
• Pimento Mac & Cheese
Dessert – I couldn’t resist
• Butterscotch Pudding
• Cinnamon Doughnuts, Rhubarb-Lager Jam
Yes! It all was as tasty as it sounds. When in Atlanta, make sure to visit and have a taste for yourself.
Note: The menu changes often to keep it fresh and interesting so what we ordered might not be available if you go in the future.
