Budget TravelingMom Becky Davenport is headed to Orlando this month and says, “I’m thinking of driving to the beach for one night. I am curious: What is the closest beach?”
Of course, TravelingMoms have the answer!
Dia Adams, Travel Hack TMOM, votes for Melbourne. “Melbourne is just about my favorite Florida beach. Very mellow.” Retro TMOM Mary Hitchings agrees. “I just left Melbourne Beach a few days ago. Great, calming area.”
According to Desiree Miller, FamilyFun TMOM, the easiest drive from Orlando is to the beaches near Port Canaveral, such as Cocoa Beach. “It’s a straight shot over and the beaches around there are nice… not Vero, but nice.”
Vero Beach is Desiree’s hometown and her first choice for an ocean visit from Orlando. Christian TMOM Teronya Holmes agrees. “We also love Vero Beach, which has Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, part of the Disney Vacation Club. Vero is worth the extra drive.”
So there you have our TravelingMom top suggestions for beaches near Orlando! But before you choose Melbourne, Cocoa, Vero, or New Smyrna,
Driving TravelingMom Scotty Reiss suggests checking the weather and water temperatures. “You may want to check out the Tampa /St. Pete beaches too,” says Scotty. “Often the water is warmer there, though there’s no surf. It’s more of a bathing beach, but like the Caribbean – beautiful, clear, calm.”
Where are your favorite Florida beaches? Any within an easy drive of Orlando?
