Aquatica Orlando: More than Just a Water Park

In concert with SeaWorld’s goal to “deliver personal, interactive and educational experiences that blend imagination with nature and enable our guests to celebrate, connect with and care for the natural world we share,” Aquatica Orlando truly is unlike your typical water park and so far, one of my favorites. And we’ve been to some pretty great water parks! Maybe one day, we’ll fly standby to all the Top 10 best water parks across the country and do a side-by-side comparison. Wouldn’t that make for a fun summer writing assignment?

At what other water park will you also find animals such as Commerson’s Dolphins, an African Spurred Tortoise and colorful Macaws. Park educators are on-hand to introduce you to the animals and answer any questions you may have.

You’ll find many educational graphics and exhibits throughout the park where you can learn about wildlife, their habitats and how to protect our animal friends. Our eight-year-old daughter, Reagan really enjoyed this part, including petting several reptiles. She is the brave one in our family.

Rides and Attractions

Aquatica packs a lot of punch into your day with eight thrill rides and five family fun attractions. We rode them except for two of the most daring thrill rides in the park: Ihu’s Breakaway Falls and Taumato Racer. Ihu’s Breakaway Falls is the newest addition to the park and is the tallest, steepest and only multi-drop tower of its kind in Orlando. Taumato Racer will have you racing other adrenaline junkies down steep hills, head first on a mat. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit relieved when Reagan opted out of both of these thrill rides. She’s already braver than me and without her I wouldn’t push myself to ride half the rides I’m willing to now.

I documented five of the other thrill rides using my new Panasonic HX-A500 Wearable 4K Waterproof Camera. It makes capturing your family adventures so easy. It’s waterproof up to 10’ deep, so I not only wore it on all the slides, but also in the wave pool, Big Surf Shores and both Lazy Rivers: Loggerhead Lane and Roa’s Rapids. I got lots of puzzled looks and questions from people who were seeing the A500 for the first time. Many of them smiled and waved at the camera, or asked where they could get one. I was happy to share all the details.

I now pack my A500 along on all our family adventures in my Ricardo Elite Roxbury 2.0 from Ricardo Beverly Hills. I used to carry-on all of my electronic equipment to keep it safe and damage-free, but since the Roxbury 2.0 is a hard case with a built-in TSA compatible lock, I no longer need to.

We were disappointed to learn that unlike Disney, SeaWorld doesn’t allow picnic lunches into any of their parks. They do allow bottled water and individual serving size snacks in a small, soft-sided cooler. So we packed ours to the brim with 4 bottles of water, turkey sticks, crackers, fruit snacks, almonds and cookies. Whatever would get us through the day. We still like to buy an ice cream from a walk-up cart at some point during the day, but prefer not to get slowed down by eating at restaurants when we visit parks.

If you prefer to dine on property, then your best bet will be to purchase the Banana Beach Buffet All-Day Pass. This value-priced pass allows you unlimited visits to the buffet all day plus all the assorted Coca-Cola products you care to drink. Seasonal pricing ranges from $16.00 to $20.00 for adults and $11.00 to $16.00 for children. Take advantage of the Ticket and Dine Advance Purchase Offer online and save even more!

Other on-site options include the Mango Market for quick snacks and treats on the go and the Waterstone Grill for full sit-down meals.

Take advantage of the Cashless Wristband program so you don’t need to carry your wallet around with you all day. Stash your wallet in a locker with the rest of your stuff, or take it back to your car.

Lockers rent for $7 a day for a small locker or $12 a day for a large locker. We were able to fit our small, soft-sided cooler, sunscreen and three towels in a small locker. It was very convenient not to drag everything around with us and be able to come back to the locker for lunch and re-applying sunscreen.

Ticket Prices

Ticket prices vary based on season, package and other discounts, but you will always save when you buy online. Sea World and Aquatica are located right next to each other.
