If this winter has disappointed New Yorkers snow-wise, they can head to REI, which offers family friendly snowshoeing and cross country skiing classes north of the city. All the equipment (and hot chocolate) is provided.
The warm weather has led to the cancellation of this year’s Winter Jam, but you can still skate for free at Citi Pond in Bryant Park.
And for those who have missed sledding in Central Park this mild winter, Mountain Creek, an hour and a half away, has a new tubing park. The ski resort is offering a family tubing package for 4, valued at $100, to one TMOM family – enter through February 13, 2012.
You fly down the tubing lanes (there are 30) on colorful inner tubes (provided) and get towed back up to the top; no schlepping back up the hill carrying 2 or 3 inner tubes.
Kids must be at least 42 inches tall AND at least 5 years old to go tubing at Mountain Creek, and children have to be accompanied by an adult.
