Last week I went to New York on a business trip and when searching for a hotel to stay, I wanted a centrally located hotel that had all the amenities. These include WiFi, breakfast availability and a mini-kitchenette. Based on past experiences, I knew I wanted to stay at a Wyndham hotel so I looked into availability. The hotel that had the dates and location I needed was the Wingate Hotel on 35th Street. I had never stayed at a Wingate and did not even realize that Wyndham owned the property before booking this trip.
When I checked in, I was handed a bag that contained a full-sized bottle of water, a bag of baked chips and a microwave popcorn. A nice perk for a Wyndham Rewardsmembers! It was a welcome site as it was 11:00 at night and I was both hungry and thirsty. Luckily, I was able chill my water in the in-room refrigerator while I ate the chips. It was actually a nice mini-kitchen unit that also contained a coffee pot, coffee supplies and a microwave.
Other amenities at the Wingate include:
High speed wired and wireless Internet access in all guest rooms and public spaces
Delicious hot breakfast buffet
Wyn-Tunes clock radio that allows you to connect your MP3 player
Cable TV with remote control and in-room interactive services
24-hour business center
24-hour Fitness room
Copy of USA Today newspaper delivered to your room Monday through Friday throughout the U.S.
Comfortable, oversized guest rooms with a separate, well-lit work area
Two-line speakerphone with voice mail and conference call capabilities
Refreshing bathroom amenities
In-room iron, ironing board and safe
Children 17 and under stay free with parents
After I snacked on the chips, I walked around the hotel to check out the layout, the fitness center, business center and head back to the lobby. The funnest thing about the lobby was the lighting feature just above the front desk as the color of the lights change every thirty seconds. In fact, I did not notice the changing colored lights immediately but only after taking and reviewing some photos. Therefore, I went back to the front desk and took shots of many of the different colors while listening to the hip music they have playing in the lobby. Which color is your favorite?
After photographing the front desk, I went back to the room, hung my clothes in the armoire, and feel asleep for a few minutes in a super comfy bed when my two friends arrived. We shared popcorn, utilized the Wi-Fi and had a great night’s sleep. In the morning, we each enjoyed a morning shower, with great water pressure I may add, and then headed down to the free breakfast buffet. To be honest, I did not have very high hopes but luckily, I was blown away. There were fresh baked goods, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, waffles and more.
After filling my belly both mornings, I spent two days full of activity and was glad that the location of the Wingate made it convenient. As you can tell, I truly enjoyed my experience at the Wingate in New York City and will certainly recommend it to you. If there was anything I found to be a drawback, it was only that you have to pay to store your bags if you come in early/need somewhere to keep them after you check out. Maybe this is customary at many hotels, and I did not need to store any but noticed the sign.
