Last spring I had an opportunity to take my 14 year old daughter to New York city for a couple of days, the result was a trip neither she or I will ever forget. We’d been to New York before, this trip we decided to explore SoHo. I did some online surfing and found a new hotel – The James. The photos looked beautiful and it was priced reasonably, but not really knowing the area I was unsure. I didn’t want to end up in an area that wasn’t safe or was far from the things we wanted to do. My worries were unfounded. I was impressed with the The James from the moment we were greeted on the street by the friendly bellhop dressed in turn of the century newsboy attire, walking in and up to the beautiful Sky Lobby ended my concerns. It was gorgeous and all of the staff members that we encountered displayed a real dedication to service. We checked in and were given a map with an overview of the SoHo neighborhood highlighting all of the stores and restaurants. Our bags were taken to room, we took our “treasure map” and went shopping. After a successful day of shopping we had a picnic dinner on the terrace patio. We watched the sunset over the city and listened to the traffic below, spending time together just talking. Not something you get to do very often with a teenager. What a fantastic end to a perfect day.
About The James SoHo
Located on the corner of Thompson and Grand, the newly built property is beautifully decorated in a clean, modern theme with a loft feel. Outdoor spaces include an urban garden terrace and rooftop pool deck and bar. The panoramic views from the rooftop pool deck and pool are stunning. The well—equipped work out room with more great views will energize your workout. There’s a private entrance to the David Burke Kitchen from the hotel elevator.
During our visit the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. In the evening fresh-baked cookies, wine, fruit and cheese were available in the lobby, which my daughter made sure we sampled. We stayed in a corner king studio and, wow, the views were spectacular. Did I already mention the views? The king studio is not huge, but there’s plenty of space to accommodate a flat screen TV, small table and chair for a work space, a low couch/bench, mini bar area, wardrobe cabinet and a beautiful bathroom featuring a rain shower and heated floor. Taking a shower, then wrapping up in the thick cotton robe was heaven after a long hard day of shopping. I blame the super comfy bed and natural lines for me missing my morning workout.
To me The James really made our mother-daughter get away complete. Thank you to the amazing staff that made us feel like we were their only guests. Happy first birthday to The James Hotel SoHo, we look forward to visiting again soon!
