Polly’s Pancake Parlor in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, is easily the best breakfast you’ll get while you’re in the White Mountains. This year we were particularly excited because they’ve redone the entire building to seat more people. They also added a waiting area and plan to be open all year long. No more waiting for Spring to enjoy our favorite pancakes!
Best Breakfast Spot
Several times a year we make the trek up to the New Hampshire White Mountains to spend a weekend hiking, camping, and even zip-lining. All that activity requires lots of energy, so we get up bright and early to head to our favorite breakfast spot for the best pancakes ever.
What makes them so good isn’t that they come with a million fillings, but that they come with a wide selection of batters that you can mix and match however you choose. You can choose plain, buckwheat, whole wheat, cornmeal, or oatmeal buttermilk with your choice of add-ins. Walnut, blueberry, chocolate chip, and coconut are the usual, but depending on the season and the whims of the restaurant, there are limited-time add-ins like bananas and pecans.
A Hearty Breakfast to Fuel Your Day
They come with all the fixings like eggs, sausage, and bacon and endless cups of their delicious coffee. My pre-teen kids swear they make the most delicious hot chocolate that comes with lots of whipped cream and sprinkles and is really more dessert than beverage.
The rustic dining area, as I mentioned, is all-new thanks to a winter remodel, but it retains the charm of the smaller building it replaces. You can see right into the kitchen where your waitress makes your pancakes on a giant griddle that will fascinate the kids.
The food and atmosphere are great and the location is simply beautiful. Polly’s Pancake Parlor is up on a hill with an amazing view of the mountains that is stunning no matter the season. We were there during the annual Lupine Festival and the fields were full of vibrant purple flowers.
Bring Home Some Pancake Mix as a Delicious Souvenir
There’s a little gift shop, too, so you can pick up some real maple syrup or a trinket as a souvenir. They also sell their mixes and I have a cabinet full of them so I can whip up my own pancakes once we’re back home.
Even with the expanded dining room, this is a hot ticket, so get there early if you don’t want to wait. We’ve found that if you’re there before 9am then you’re probably good, but any later and the wait on weekends can be hours long. Yes, they’re just that good.
Stop at New Hampshire White Mountains in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire the next time you’re in the White Mountains and you’ll get your fill of delicious pancakes to keep you going through a day of outdoor adventures.
