Doesn’t it rock when you discover a new military benefit. I’ve known for several years that there is a military hotel somewhere in the vicinity of New York City. Until last month I had never seen it or stayed there. I was under the false impression that the military lodging was in a bad location. Now that I’ve been there I know better.
The Soldiers, Sailors, Marines’, Coast Guard, and Airmen’s Club is located on Lexington Avenue between 36th and 37th street. Although the military hotel is not in the heart of the action, it is less then a $10 cab ride to all the major attractions. The military hotel is also close to several subway stations, including Grand Central Station.
The accommodations are similar to most other military billeting. The rooms are basic and from what I saw all the beds are twin beds. None of the rooms have a private bath. Each floor has a set of bathrooms and showers, one for men and one for women. All the family rooms are on the 4th floor and there is no elevator. (I so enjoyed hauling the luggage up 4 floors along with 3 kids!)
Rates to stay at the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines’, Coast Guard, and Airmen’s Club are based on rank and the number of beds you need. Our family room had six beds, but we only need four. My rate was $70 a night and the kids were $15 a night each. I thought $115 a night was a stellar rate for NYC with kids and they provide coffee and bagels every morning!
