maine31Last weekend my husband and I celebrated our 9th Wedding Anniversary in Freeport, Maine. We choose Freeport as the Traveling Mom Network was invited to experience the Hilton Garden Inn and all it has to offer. The Hilton Hotels are well known by business travelers but the Garden Inn wants all of us to see what an affordable getaway it offers for both family holidays or for a fun girlfriend getaway.

The best part about the location of the Garden Inn in Freeport, is well, the location. You can walk to a huge selection of shops, restaurants and even some great outdoor activities. We dined at Azure Café, Isabella’s Sticky Buns, and Gritty McDuff’ Brew Pub and in-between, we walked to outdoor shops (beats a mall any day), drove the coast and saw a celebrity (read more about it at Savor the Thyme).

maine21So, more about the hotel and what made the stay so wonderful: When we walked into the room, we were pleased to find a lovely wall unit that contained a microwave oven, coffee pot, and a refrigerator. At many hotels, we always had to ask for a refrigerator to store milk for my young children and sometimes opted to stay at a different hotel if they could not obtain one for us. I was also happy to find a large desk with complimentary Ethernet or Wi-Fi with an ergonomic chair.

What really made us happy was the Garden Sleep System bed which allowed my husband and me to adjust each side of the bed to our comfort level. What a great night’s sleep!

maine11There was also a very nice business center in case you wanted to print documents or check your email without having to lug your laptop with you on vacation.

And last but not least, a lovely surprise was that you can request (for free!) a Fitness Kit. The kit includes: Pilates band, yoga mat, strap & bricks, an ab ball, hand weights, rope, and an exercise card. I could have also opted for a workout in the Fitness Room.

Another perk to the Freeport location is the L.L.Bean Store (also in walking distance) and its Outdoor Discovery School. They offer half and full day classes in fishing, kayaking and a number of other outdoor activities. In addition to the School, there are hiking and nature trails only five minutes away at Wolfe’s Neck State Park, Bradbury Mountain State Park only twenty minutes away, and even Seal watching excursions and kayak rentals nearby.
