capitol hill hotelThe Capitol Hill Hotel is changing its name but it is still a hotel of suites, which all families know are key to family travel bliss. That and free breakfast, which is also included. The name and the soft goods are changing but the room layouts will be the same – 152 two-room suites with kitchenettes. The Capitol Hill Hotel is actually two buildings and there is no connecting hallway. In the winter this could be a challenge because the free breakfast that is included in your stay is served in only one of the buildings, which means you have to walk outside get to it.

capitol hill hotel3The lobby has an urban vibe with groovy furniture and artwork but the rooms are family friendly. My room was spacious – huge living room with a pullout couch and every parent’s favorite amenity: a door between the living room and bedroom. There are flat screens in both rooms and a kitchenette stocked with plates, utensils, a can opener and even salt and pepper. A complete guest room renovation will begin in November 2012 to replace the bedding and furniture. I am anxious to see the renovation when it is complete. The furniture looks a little worn but I think the rooms are pleasant now, in hues of brown, teal and white.

Capitol Hill Hotel is well located – only 6 blocks from Union Station, one block from a Metro stop and 3 blocks to the Capitol Building. TIP: Remember to read all the instructions when you buy your subway ticket, BTW – peak tickets require an additional fee that is NOT LISTED on the fee chart, you have to add it on. You also need your ticket to EXIT the station or you will have to buy a new ticket.
