Despite growing up on the East Coast, I had never been to Maine. While I was pregnant, though, I purchased a vacation package through Gilt to the uber romantic and luxurious The White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine. It was our “babymoon,” for some R+R before the twins came and doubled the size of our family.
Kennebunkport is not only a fun tongue twister, but a popular vacation spot made famous by the Bush family’s compound and other wealthy summer home owners. It reminded me of Martha’s Vineyard and other idyllic picture-perfect sea-towns on the east coast, but further tucked away.
The White Barn Inn has been a landmark in Kennebunk for 150 years. The Condé Nast Traveler described the hotel as “One of the great places to stay and eat in the world.” It wasn’t cheap even with the package we got, but it was so well worth it.
Romance at The White Barn Inn
We stayed in one of the Inn’s garden cottages on the property and it was pure luxury: plush beds, robes, champagne waiting in a bucket, a gas fireplace, beautiful tub and a breakfast/reading nook. It was decadent to say the least. We were there for only two nights and I did NOT want to leave. *sigh*
The beautiful outdoor pool was serene with stone work all around, lounge chairs, cabanas and fruit-infused spa water on tap. Best of all, it was so quiet, hidden away from the street in the back among trees and nature. Just thinking about it leaves me feeling Zen.
Food at The White Barn Inn
The White Barn Inn is also famous due to its celebrated restaurant offering an unforgettable AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star dining experience. Their lobster dinner presentation was one of the best meals I’ve had.
This had to be one of my most extravagant meals and weekend getaways ever. So, if you’re looking for a V.I.P pampering experience, I’d highly recommend a visit to The White Barn Inn. Here are some additional ideas for your visit, from strawberry picking to lobster on the docks.
