The 2014 Winter Olympics may be taking place halfway around the world, but Times Square in New York City is pulling out all the stops for a special countdown event October 29.
The free day long “Road to Sochi Tour” kicks off a multi-city extravaganza that brings athlete demonstrations, meet-and-greet autograph sessions, sport experiences, interactive elements and Team USA giveaways to fans around the country.
In NYC sport demonstrations throughout the day include figure skating, ice hockey, sled hockey, speedskating, curling, wheelchair curling, street luge, slope style skiing and snowboarding, and freestyle skiing tricks on trampolines.
You can play Wii Fit snowboarding and skiing, and interactive trivia Plinko games. There is also a hockey slap shot test, figure skating skills challenge and two balance challenge: street luge on a ramp and speedskating on slide boards. The lack of snow won’t be an issue at these Olympics; there is cross country skiing with roller skis and poles.
If you want to try more extreme sports – or just look like you did – take a photo in front of the green screen and get pictures of yourself trying different winter sports.
Sponsors like Coca-Cola, Chobani, Smuckers and Bear Naked will hand out samples and the Budweiser Clydesdales will strut through Times Square.
