Hearing local music whenever you travel is always a treat and allows you to enjoy the local music scene. World music concerts give us the opportunity to hear an array of music and musical instruments and to remind us of our travels.
Although I didn’t get a chance to hear The Parlotones a couple of years ago when I visited Johannesburg, South Africa, I’m delighted they are making a United States tour and will be playing in my hometown of Chicago this weekend at the Double Door. They started their U.S. tour in Florida last week and are continuing to the east coast with concerts scheduled in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston and Philadelphia after Chicago. The remaining leg of the tour schedule can be found below.
For people new to The Parlotones, they are South Africa’s most successful rock band, and the first band in South African history (including international acts) to sell out the Grandwest Arena. The group will be co-headlining several shows with Coldplay and Snow Patrol in South Africa in October in one of the World Cup stadiums.
Their new video for “Should We Fight Back” premiered in the United States on MTVU and is part of the MTV Buzzworthy blog. The video for “Stars Fall Down” just won the South African Music Award for Best Music Video – the 3rd year in a row the band taken home that prize.
