Travel and vacations are meant to help us explore whether you are in a new city or taking a staycation. Finding ways to stay active while vacationing, whether you are taking a girls’ getaway or family vacation can open up new parts of a city that might otherwise be missed. Chicago is a destination that is a perfect example a city that caters to cultural, foodie, family and active travel.
One of the things that I look for in a destination is a property that will help make staying active even easier, which is why the Four Seasons Chicago, where I had the opportunity to explore as a guest, is the perfect place to call home while staying in the city.
4 Ways to Stay Active in Chicago
1. Go for a Run
With a lakefront trail that spans 18 miles along Lake Michigan, Chicago is a runner’s paradise. The perfect amenity for any runner or walker, the Four Seasons Chicago provides guests with a route map that is made of the same type of paper that race bibs are made of, so that it will withstand rain, sweat and being folded. The biggest dilemma a runner will face when wanting to run is Chicago is picking which direction to go in, north our south to explore the different neighborhoods and lakeside attractions. Of course, after a great run or walk, you won’t feel as bad about later heading out to explore the perfect foodie destinations in Chicago.
You don’t usually think of Chicago as a beach destination but in fact, the city is home to 26 miles of shoreline and over 30 beaches. Just steps away from the north end of the Magnificent Mile is access to Oak Street Beach where you can play volleyball, enjoy something to eat looking out at the expanse that is Lake Michigan with the city skyline behind you. Just a short walk further north is North Avenue Beach with a traditional boat house structure and opportunities to get in the water on a kayak or jet ski.
3. Take a stroll in Millennium Park
Millennium Park is located in the heart of the city, just over a mile south of the Four Seasons Chicago giving visitors and residents alike a haven of green to relax in. Yoga enthusiasts will appreciate the free summer yoga sessions through early September while photographers will like playing with the mirrored effect of photographing the Cloud Gate sculpture by Anish Kapoor. Children will love getting a break from sightseeing running on the lawn or playing detective in the Lurie Garden.
Of course, you do not have to go outside to be active in Chicago while staying at the Four Seasons Chicago. The pool, spa and fitness center welcome guests of all ages to relax, move and play. The pool itself is a relaxing sanctuary with windows to the sky and city that neither children nor parents will want to leave. Whether you are swimming laps, playing or soothing muscles in the hot tub, this is one hotel pool that you will want to make time for.
Being active in Chicago during a trip ends up not as something you feel like you “have to do” but something that you crave each day, waking up to views of the city or lake. The biggest decision you will have to make is which to do first.
The Four Seasons Chicago assisted me with parts of my stay. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.
