Located just 20 minutes from some of the most astonishing sites in the world like: Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, and Badlands National Park (to name a few), is one of the most sophisticated and convenient hotels in Rapid City, SD. The Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza is a luxury/business class, yet family-friendly hotel with beautiful rooms and solid amenities.

The luxurious, family-friendly Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza is located centrally in the hip-happening area of Downtown Rapid City which made winding down after a long day of driving that much more relaxing.

Here’s what we loved about the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza:

Convenient Central Location

This hotel is the perfect location for families and travelers who want to be close to major attractions and popular areas.

The hotel is within walking distance of Downtown Rapid City, which features over 70 shops, 33 restaurants, and breathtaking art pieces. You can find everything from art galleries, museums, fashionable boutiques, fine cuisine, the presidential statues, and great entertainment from music to theater.

Located in the center of Downtown Rapid City is Main Street Square – a fun-filled area where you can build lasting memories for the whole family. My boys thoroughly enjoyed jumping through the water fountains … I just didn’t have the guts to take a camera with me to capture it.

It is also here where we enjoyed a free summer concert series featuring a Journey tribute band.

Just a short 20 minute drive will take you to the jaw-dropping National Memorial, Mount Rushmore and from there you’ll enjoy the rest of what the Badlands has to offer. The convenience of this hotel is above and beyond what we expected it to be!

The Spacious and Quiet Room at Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza

Upon check-in, we were given a standard guest room and in all honesty, I couldn’t imagine an upgrade from it.

Our room featured double beds – perfect for hopping back and forth for two little boys, a microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, free high-speed Internet access, TWO (yes, 2) TV’s (with HBO), a work desk, couch, and free local calling. We had ample outlets to charge all of our electronics into with some outlets to spare. The room featured an individually controlled air-conditioner, iron and ironing board, separate hanging closets, and windows that can only be opened by the guest.

Our neighbors in the room next to us had three kiddos under the age of six and while we could definitely hear them while we were walking several feet back, once we were in our own rooms, I never heard a peep. Which was comforting knowing how noisy my two boys can be when they’re excited!

But the best part for a busy-mom of a traveling family was the TRIPLE-sheeted bed, plush pillows and a comfortable bed that is indescribable.

The private bathroom was clean and consisted of a bathtub, hairdryer and mini spa bottles that had me sold on the scent (Lemon-Verbena). The water stayed hot for the showers and the room vented the steam well.

Welcoming and Knowledgeable Staff

I can’t say enough about the staff at this hotel. Our check-in process was painless and quick and the staff was knowledgeable about the hotel. The entire team that we came across was friendly and welcoming (from housekeeping to bar staff to front desk and the bell hop).

When my family needed directions, they were quick to help and even made a map to show us the quickest way to our destination. They were helpful in recommending where we should eat and how we should spend our time in Rapid City that evening.

We were unfortunately faced with an unexpected family emergency back home and had to leave a day before our original departure date and I can’t tell you how appreciative I am with their condolences.Whole we were there, the staff took fantastic care of us and made sure we felt at home and that my children’s first trip to that hotel was a memorable one.

Dining Options at the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza

We were only able to try dinner at the hotel’s on site restaurant, The Grille, but from the experience we had ,we’d definitely recommend it to anyone and we wished we could’ve experienced more meals there!

From pastas to burgers and salads to sandwiches, they have something for even the pickiest of eaters (my youngest). I had the Cajun Chicken Pasta and it was divine. The kid’s mac and cheese was of perfect portion and the adult entrees were filling. Our total was just under $35.00 for our family of four (not counting tip), which was perfect considering we didn’t even have to leave the hotel.

Service was quick and the staff was accommodating.

But my most favorite thing of all about the dining – kids eat free! (12 & under)
