This is a Marriott serving two distinctive towns, plus golfers and conference attendees. That’s why the name is so long: Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest. Wow.

It’s in Ypsilanti, but I visited only Ann Arbor, seven miles away. I don’t golf; didn’t have a conference. Received extensive pampering from front-desk staff and within gracious spaces.

What Works for Families

Indoor pool and whirlpool—always a helpful travel feature for families with kids. All public spaces are spacious and vividly colorful, a very different welcome from lodging with tight arriving spaces.

Surely Marriott’s point is not to encourage running and tumbling, but the subtle feeling of “We can stretch out here” is good psychology.DestinationReview

A wall of windows to the golf course let in light on gray winter Michigan days when I was there; I can imagine the colors popping in the spring and summer.

What Doesn’t Work for Families

Distance to Ann Arbor limits hotel breaks or naptime between activities. Adults could stick with the compelling opportunities all over Ann Arbor, returning late at night. Not so for families with children; they might be better off exploring Ypsilanti.

The Details

Spending lots of time all over the hotel and extensive grounds works just fine—maybe non-stop sightseeing isn’t so necessary here.

  • Eagle Crest Golf Club, 18 holes, some visible from hotel windows, par 72, with ties to Eastern Michigan University
  • One-mile walk around Ford Lake, across Huron Street which fronts the hotel. With the kids, might drive and park easily in the Park and Ride lot. Out for a jog? Just run right over to the nature trail.
  • Connected conference center

The Hotel

The Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest is 12 miles from Detroit Metropolitan Airport (closer here than to Detroit.) Take I-94 west to S. Huron Street, exit 183. One left turn from the exit and left into the driveway.

The Room

This property’s “stretch your arms out wide” feeling continued in my room, including the bathroom. Shelves under the sink help toiletries be convenient but stashed.

The TV is a 42-inch flat plasma. Wireless is free and the sign-in was simpler than many places, and reliable. Four plugs are available on the workstation desk but they are close together and many of my chargers are square and wide. Yours too?

I’d recommend taking your slimline plug extender; wall plugs are not so easy to reach for additional devices.

Dining

I only looked, never dined, in because I was so thrilled with the abundance of chef-driven cuisine in Ann Arbor. Both Marriott restaurants offer sweeping views of the golf course and wooded land.

Breakfast and lunch are available in the lower level Bentley’s American Grille and lunch and dinner at the lobby level View Restaurant with full bar seating and individual tables.
