Homewood-Suites-Cleveland-Living-RoomVisiting Cleveland? My family of four recently spent the night at the Homewood Suites in Solon, Ohio, near Cleveland before spending the weekend with extended family.

Room for the Whole Family at the Homewood Suites
As a family of four with two under six years old, we appreciate having enough space to spread out in a hotel room; multiple rooms or a suite is even better. As a business traveler, I also enjoy having room to work and sleep – and prefer that those spaces be separate. Rooms at the Homewood Suites have a kitchen area with a stove top and full-sized refrigerator, living room, and bedroom – enough room for the kids to run from one room to another and spread their toys out on the floor without being tripped over.

Walking Distance to Family Friendly Restaurants
We stayed on a Friday night, so we didn’t get to enjoy the Homewood Suites’ weekday dinner reception. We were happy to learn that a few family-friendly restaurants were within walking or driving distance. After having spent most of the day in the car, we chose to walk to Hunan Solon, just across the street from the hotel. Dinner was served quickly and our waiter was very attentive to our needs, quickly refilling water glasses and bringing anything we needed.

Splish Splash in the Hotel Pool
After dinner, we took a dip in the indoor hotel pool. The kids enjoyed splashing around the pool, while I stole a few moments of mom time and soaked in the hot tub. Outside the pool area is a patio with grills, which guests can use for grilling or just sitting and enjoying the outdoors.

Family Friendly Movies and Popcorn
We had brought a few DVDs to watch in the hotel room, but were pleasantly surprised that the hotel also stocks DVDs in the gift shop for guests to borrow. Among the family-friendly choices were “Homeward Bound 2,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “Spy Kids.” Free, fresh popcorn is also available in the evenings.

We discovered that our DVD player remote was missing batteries, but a quick call to the front desk had a staff member bring up new batteries within a few minutes.

Free Breakfast for a Good Morning
Homewood Suites properties offer a free hot breakfast every morning. My husband and I enjoyed the fresh fruit and scrambled eggs, while the kids ate peanut butter and jelly bagels and breakfast sausage. Also offered were cereals and oatmeal, a make-your-own waffle machine and French toast.
