BREAKFAST

Billy Gail’s Café

Voted Branson’s Best Breakfast, Billy Gail’s Café is a MUST every time we are traveling in the Ozarks. First and foremost though, make sure to get to Billy Gail’s at the crack of done or be prepared to wait a while (which is well worth it – if that ends up being the case). Secondly, before I go on and on about how amazing this place is, the owner, Ms. Gail Blong has to be the sweetest person I have ever met. You instantly feel like you’ve known her forever and she’ll treat you just the same. Her warm smile and country, Ozark charm will make you want to give her a hug as soon as you make your way through the door.

Now for the restaurant, which was once a former gas station and log cabin that was transformed about 20 years ago into the most beloved breakfast spot in the Branson region. While most of Branson restaurants, attractions and entertainment are on the bustling Route {76}, Billy Gail’s is just a bit hidden on the smaller Route {265}. It sits less than half a mile off the main drag — just far enough so that if you didn’t know it was there, you’d never find it. But all the locals find it. And it’s on of Branson’s best kept breakfast secret places. It’s rustic enough to lack its own website, but consistently earns 4+ stars from TripAdvisor! And if you’re heading to Silver Dollar City for the day, it’s on the way!

Billy Gail’s is a country-charm style eatery, set in various rooms of an old log cabin that is also an antique store-cum-flea market, with many of the furnishings for sale. It is decorated with antiques, birdhouses, rocking chairs, and the like while ceiling fans spin overhead. Coffee is served in mismatched novelty cups, the wood floors are worn, the tables are covered with red checkered cloths, and the whole thing has the feel of eating in a general store in someone’s house – which it pretty much what it is. The old gas pumps are still outside but decommissioned and painted with flowers and smiley faces. Servers ooze Southern charm, call you “hon,” and accept only cash for payment. It is open solely for breakfast and lunch and is a far and refreshing cry from the numerous chain restaurants and fast food outlets in the heart of Branson.

Mouth-watering selections like the “Belly Buster” – which my husband obviously had to attempt (it comes with three eggs, two humongous buttermilk pancakes, hash browns, and your choice of bacon, ham, or sausage, and toast or biscuit). Very rarely does my husband need a ‘to-go’ box, but there was no way he could fit all of that.

They are known for their enormous pancakes (the size of a large plate) but also serve a variety of other foods like omelets, French toast, breakfast burritos, soups and salads. And there’s not one thing on the menu that isn’t satisfying and delectable!

Danna’s BBQ

Ask the locals where to go for delicious Branson BBQ and they’ll tell you Danna’s BBQ & Burger Shop. Owners, Danna and Chuck Junck have built the restaurant’s reputation as one of the most popular dining options for locals and Branson visitors alike by providing consistently friendly service, and hot, fresh, delicious dishes at an affordable price. Danna’s BBQ & Burger Shop offers a quaint dining setting with concrete floors, red-checkered tablecloths, and tin siding as wall covering. The extensive and diverse menu caters to everyone’s tastes with selections ranging from BBQ Nachos, and Stuffed Baked Potatoes, to platters piled with pulled pork, or beef, 8 oz. grilled sausage, ribs, fried catfish or smoked chicken. Each platter comes piled high with beans, coleslaw, hot fresh fries, and a Memphis Roll (a treat all its own). Guests of Danna’s BBQ may also choose from a large selection of fresh (never frozen) burgers and sandwiches including Double Cheese Burger, Fat Burger, Garbage Burger, and Turkey Burger as well as Beef, Pulled Pork, or Chicken Sandwich, and Chicken BLT.
Danna’s is famed for its smoked, slow-cooked meats. My favorite is the pulled pork plate (about $9.00) which will satisfy even the hungriest appetite. Sounds good, right? I haven’t even got to the dessert. Although, few diners can find room after their main course for one of the restaurant’s homemade desserts!
