With so many cruise lines to choose from, it can be a bit overwhelming to pick just one for your next family vacation. Sarah, our Twins Traveling Mom, recently returned from a 5 night Carnival Cruise out of Mobile, Alabama. She took her entire family with her (yes, grandparents included!), and it was a wonderful vacation. Find out why she thinks your family will love Carnival Cruise Lines too.

Carnival Cruise Vacation

With 25 ships in their current fleet and number 26 on the way, Carnival Cruise Lines is the largest cruise fleet currently sailing. A Carnival cruise vacation can be fun for all with some careful planning. Choosing the right ship, itinerary, and cabin can make or break a family cruise.

Speaking of family, I highly recommend taking yours with you when you cruise. Solo or couples vacations are fantastic, but having your family (yes, extended members too) only adds to the excitement and merriment of your time off work. I’ve got six great reasons to give a Carnival cruise vacation a try.

1. Budget Friendly Options

First of all, Carnival cruise vacations are a great value. With some rates as low as $50 per night, these cruises are some of the most affordable ones out there. Using a travel agent can often score you even better deals or onboard credit to use during your trip. My family booked a cabin on a group rate and secured $50 onboard credit. That went a long way to easing the burden of onboard purchases!

2. Guy’s Burger Joint

All Carnival ships that received “Fun Ship 2.0” upgrades had a Guy’s Burger Joint added to them. Fresh cut fries, juicy burgers cooked to perfection, and a toppings bar so you can fix it how you like it are all included in your cruise fare. Our ship’s lido deck featured the pool and Guy’s Burger Joint, so it was easy to enjoy lunch poolside. My girls love Guy Fieri and his Food Network shows, so they were eager to see what his restaurant offered. I am not ashamed to say I need two hands to count the number of times I ate at Guy’s Burger Joint. Yes, it was that good.

3. Camp Ocean

A highlight of a Carnival cruise vacation is the ability to entertain children in a safe, fun environment while parents relax elsewhere. I can say, without a doubt, my girls loved Camp Ocean. Camp Ocean is divided into three groups. Ages 2-5 are called the “Penguins,” ages 6-8 are called the “Sting Rays,” and ages 9-11 are called the “Sharks.” Since my girls are young, I appreciated the age groupings and differing activities for each group. On our last night aboard, the “Sting Rays” received blank shirts to color and personalize however they saw fit. To this day, that shirt is among my girls’ most prized souvenirs from that vacation.

4. Seuss at Sea

In addition to the great kids camp activities, there are other opportunities for kids of all ages to have fun. Seuss at Sea is a program that brings to life everyone’s favorite characters from the beloved Dr. Seuss classics. The Seuss-a-Palooza parade and story time are interactive, engaging family events on select Carnival ships, and my family got to experience them both. For an additional (nominal) fee, families can also participate in the Green Eggs and Ham breakfast and meet Thing 1 and Thing 2, the Cat in the Hat, and, of course, Sam-I-Am!

5. Fun for Adults

Lest you think a cruise should be all about the kids, there are definitely plenty of opportunities for adults to have fun as well. Carnival cruise vacations include many “adults only” choices like Bingo tournaments, spa experiences, and, of course, a full casino with table games and slot machines.

While those may interest some, others may be looking for a more peaceful escape. My husband and I spent several evenings on the Serenity Adults Only deck watching the stars come out as the sun went down. The secluded deck is the perfect spot for adults to rest and recharge on vacation.

6. Plenty of Options

Want to take a short cruise? Carnival’s got you covered. Want to visit new ports of call? Carnival can help you there too. Not interested in formal dining times? Believe it or not, Carnival can handle that also. Having sailed on other cruise lines before, I was expecting a specific dining time for all passengers and was a little confused when my family was assigned “Your Time” dining. After experiencing dining on my own time, I have to say we really enjoyed it. Making our own schedule some nights was much more pleasant that rushing to meet an assigned dining time.

We were also excited to sail out from a port close to our home. Having the option of driving instead of flying kept this vacation very budget friendly for our family.Have you ever taken a Carnival cruise vacation?
