Easter_EggsEaster is just around the corner, which means most of us will get an opportunity to take advantage of the long weekend and spend some extra time with family and friends. Regardless of whether you celebrate Easter or not, the holiday is a great way to get out and take advantage of all the fun activities happening in your area. For those of you who are driving or flying in to visit family and friends in Toronto this week, I’ve put together a list of some of the best and most exciting events taking place over the weekend.

Some of Toronto’s most popular tourist destinations such as the Toronto Zoo and Casa Loma are holding their very own Easter celebrations and Centre Island is hosting the city’s biggest Easter egg hunt! Fancy a drive just outside the city? Why not take a trip on the Easter Express for a fun and educational tour of the South Simcoe Railway!

Casa Loma

Canada’s most famous castle, Casa Loma has a couple of events going on. On Saturday April 23, running through Monday, April 25, kids can join in the “Egg” Citing Hunt. Easter treats are handed out to every child who finds all five eggs. You have a choice between the 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. program and admissionincludes a full pass to Casa Loma for the day, coffee, hot chocolate and cookies.

Price: Children are $14.50 and Adults $20.00 plus HST (please note that re-registration is necessary as space is limited).

On Sunday, April 24th from 10:00 to 3:00 p.m., famlies can enjoy a beautiful mouth-watering brunch, fit for royalty at the Casa Loma. Prices range from $50-$59.

Centre Island

Toronto, Centre Island’s EGGstravaganza is known as the BIGGEST and BEST Easter Egg Hunt in the city, This is the place to be if you want to have a day filled with Spring fun! The event takes place on Friday, April 22 , Saturday April 23 and Sunday April 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Not only will kids be able to meet the Easter Bunny himself, but they will also have opportunities to polish their artistic skills at the basket making tent. Little ones will go crazy over the petting farm, and of course rides such as the Rockin’ Ferry and Centreville Train will add a touch of thrill to the day.

Priced at $15.00 per person, the Easter EGGstravaganza includes the ferry ride over Centre Island, Easter egg hunt, amusement rides and a ton more!

Toronto Zoo

One of my favourite spots in city, the Toronto Zoo is holding an Eco-Friendly Easter all weekend from Friday April 22 right through Easter Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. They are planning some really fun activities and programs including FrogWatch, Backyard Naturalists and the award winning EcoKids program from Earth Day Canada. The Zoo is also hosting their very own “Party for the Plant” where kids can meet the zoo keepers and learn how they can be an ambassador for living more environmentally friendly way. You can even check out their new Tundra Trek area while your’ there.

Easter Express Train Ride

If you are driving down, or renting a car during your visit, you may want to take a quick trip to Tottenham, a little town 50 minutes north of Toronto for the special Easter Express. While riding along the rolling countryside, South Simcoe Railway will take you through the scenic Beeton Creek valley as you travel in restored 1920’s coaches over the rails of a century-old branchline that once connected Hamilton with Barrie and Collingwood.

This is a great opportunity to experience travel as they did in the 1920s. Each excursion takes just under one hour and across the road from the railway is a conservation park where you can enjoy a light picnic. If you prefer to eat out, there are a few restaurants one block away. The Easter Express train will run on April 23rd and April 24th with four departures every day: 12:00, 1:00, 2:00 & 3:00.
