While the new musicals are ideal for introducing kids to live entertainment, seasoned theater-goers will appreciate special effects and outstanding showmanship. Be sure to check show times early in the day so you can catch all three spectacular shows. Line up early to secure seats.
Mickey and the Magical Map
Presented at the remodeled Fantasyland Theatre, this high-energy production utilizes colorful visuals, theatrical wizardry and toe-tapping music. Kids will be mesmerized by a mischievous Mickey Mouse, starring as an apprentice to sorcerer Yen Sid (Disney spelled backwards) whose large map (spanning the entire stage) has magical powers that takes dreamers anywhere they want to go. Through his adventures, Mickey meets up with classic Disney characters, including Mulan, Pocahontas, King Louie, Sebastian and Princess Tiana.
Two more musicals – Tangled, and Beauty and the Beast – take place in Fantasy Faire, situated near the Sleeping Beauty Castle. The lively shows are presented by Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones, a pair of vaudeville-style Renaissance storytellers, in the Fantasy Faire Theatre. Depending on the show, a princess heroine (Rapunzel or Belle), joins in the fun and stays with the audience to greet guests following the musical. If you don’t get a seat inside the theatre, you can still easily see the show from outside, if you don’t mind standing. In the cozy village (designed with the same architecture as Fantasyland), families can meet Disney princesses in the Royal Hall.
