Living in Southern California is both a blessing and a curse when it comes to visiting Disneyland. We are lucky enough to make multiple trips a year, but rarely do we make a โ€œvacationโ€ out of it. On a recent trip we splurged and stayed at Disneyโ€™s Paradise Pier Hotel and boy, am I glad we did. This was our first experience staying at a Disneyland hotel, and the entire family was quite impressed.

Parking, Checking In and Stopping for a Picture

Navigating to the hotel parking can be an adventure, especially if your GPS decides to play tricks on you like ours does. But once there, you can park your car and forget about it until itโ€™s time to check out, since everything is within walking distance.

TravelingMom Tip: Self-parking is $17.00 per night per vehicle. There is valet parking available for $25.00 per night. Disney Vacation Club Members staying on points get free parking.

Upon entering Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel you are greeted by an old friend who provides the perfect picture spot. (See our picture above!)

We arrived at the hotel fairly early (like 8:00 a.m. early!), so imagine our surprise at finding out our room was ready and waiting for us. We had already planned on exploring the hotel while we waited for our room, so we decided to stick to that plan.

Endless Family Fun and Entertainment

In true Disney form, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel has a special place for little ones to sit back and enjoy classic Disney cartoons and movies. The Paradise Theater features rows of miniature beach chairs and a small TV that continually plays Disney favorites.

Next door is a haven for kids of all ages, Flounder’s Fun ‘n’ Games arcade. The arcade has classic video games along with the well-loved claw machines. Is my kid the only one that sees a claw machine and starts talking like a three-eyed green alien? โ€œOoooooh the claw!โ€

Splish, Splash Roof Top Pool

On the third floor of Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel is the Paradise Pool. This rooftop area has two pools, including a small toddler pool, a slide offering a rip roaring good time and a relaxing whirlpool spa for adults.

The Californian Streamin’ water slide was a HUGE hit with my son. He rode it about 50 times in a row and gave us quite the attitude when it was time for a break.

Right by the Paradise Pool is the Sand Bar which is an outdoor quick-service outletย that offers light meals and a few cocktails. It was a quiet day, so much to our disappointment it wasn’t open which meant no poolside adult refreshments for us.

We were lucky enough to have someย very energetic Cast Members host a very happening pool party for all the kids. They did the limbo, a dance party and some other entertaining games.

ย The pool deck also offers a delightful view of the Disneyland Park evening fireworks and as an added bonus the music is piped in for your enjoyment.

Nothing Beats Retail Therapy

Mickey in Paradise offers a little bit of everything including some everyday items that you may have forgotten. ย You’ll find Disneyland sweatshirts, t-shirts and the typical coffee mugs.

TravelingMom Tip: Check out the hotel shops for hard to find park items. When we were there we were able to find some highly sought-after Disneyland 60th Celebration items at Mickey in Paradise, even some that were sold out in the Parks.

Calling All Hungry Bellies

The Surfside Lounge is a quick service restaurant located across from Mickey in Paradise that offers some great food choices and even a select array of cocktails.ย  My favorite item from the Surfside Lounge is the souvenir mug, which changes with the seasons.ย  For just under $7.00, this makes a great and inexpensive keepsake.

If you’re looking for a fun place to dine, look no further than Disney’s PCH Grill. This bright beach themed restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner.

For breakfast, guests can dine with their favorite characters at Surfs Up! Breakfast with Mickey and Friends. Enjoy this fabulous breakfast featuring an all-you-care-to-eat buffet including Mickey waffles and even a build-your-own omelet station. This character breakfast is on our must do list, since we missed it on this trip.

Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel will amaze and delight both young and old. Exciting attractions, characters and roof top pools are just a sneak of what you'll find here.

More than a Place to Rest Your Head

After exploring the first floor, we ventured to the eighth floor to check out our room.ย The room featured two queen beds and a single fold-out couch and would sleep a family of five adequately. There was just three of us on this trip, so we didn’t use the fold-out couch. But I did take it for a spin just to test the comfort level and it wasn’t bad.

The bathroom wasn’t anything to write home about. Just your standard bath/shower combination with a large counter top. Does anyone else get giddy about the Disney toiletries? My husband sure does!

Since we were splurging and all, we opted for the theme park view studio that over looked Disney’s California Adventure Park. Once World of Color lit up the nighttime sky, we knew this hotel was perfect for our family.

Our overnight stay at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel was just too short! We fell in love with this upbeat family friendly hotel and can’t wait to stay there again.
