I went to Disneyland this weekend for a quick trip with a favorite traveling bestie. We witnessed something odd: parents not yelling at their kids to put their phones away. In fact, young and old were walking around with their phones out and clustering in groups. The reason: the new Pokemon Go app. Here’s a rundown of what we saw and how your next Disneyland vacation can include hunting for Pokemons with friends and family.
Pokemon Go at Disneyland
If you are on social media or have a teen/tween or are a Millenial, then I’m assuming you already know all about the new app that swept the world this weekend, Pokemon Go. If this is all new to you, here’s a primer to get you started.
I’ll be the first to admit: I don’t get it. I’m all over here yelling at the kids to “get off my lawn” and such. But I’m a slow adapter (like with SnapChat) and I’m sure I’ll jump on board eventually. I didn’t download it this weekend due to my “unfortunate over data usage” as my sweet husband notified me.
My Kingdom for unlimited data! Especially while at the wifi-less Disneyland parks.
Thankfully for those that are into it and playing, you don’t have to stop the game when you leave the house. In fact, that’s the point of it.
Visiting Disneyland is no exception.
Pokemon are found all over the Disney parks and your family is sure to keep the fun going, even in the middle of the magic.
My teen son just told me that Disneyland plus Pokemon would be the BEST. DAY. EVER. And he even gave me a little Rapunzel spin when he said it.
Um, okay. I’m not sure what to do with that, but I’ll take it as a seal of approval.
The cast members know exactly what’s going on, by the way. There was a joke thrown out while we were on the Jungle Cruise and the Cast Member helping with evacuation from the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad kindly reminded us to refrain from hunting Pokemon as we exited.
I laughed, because, seriously, I would not have been surprised to see this happening!

Happy hunting! Or whatever it is you kids are doing these days.
