DSCN1441There is so much to do in Aruba. You can hit the beach, dive into the local culture, or spend your time checking out the restaurants. One local dining establishment you have to check out on your Aruba vacation is Zeerover! Let me tell you why. Caution: this post may make your mouth water!

You have probably already figured out that I am not an all-inclusive vacation kinda girl. If wanderlust draws me to a destination, like Aruba, the intent is to explore. I’m not just talking about exploration of the cocktail menu at the hotel pool.

Restaurants. Languages. Culture. I crave them as strongly as warm sun rays.

A Restaurant with a View

So, imagine my excitement this last trip when many of our Aruban friends were raving about a restaurant called Zeerover Fish Bar. I knew we had to check it out.  Let me tell you, we weren’t disappointed.

Zeerover is located in the small town of Savanetta on the southern coast of Aruba.  Hop onto the main road that takes you from Oranjestad to San Nicholas. Pass the airport. Continue for 5-10 minutes – not sure exactly as we were on Aruba time. You will eventually see a Subway restaurant and a sign for Flying Fishbone, a more popular tourist restaurant.

Look up. You should see the pirate flag of Zeerover waving in the breeze. Come to find out, Zeerover means “pirate” in Dutch.

So, Zeerover is a non-pretentious fish bar with local prices. Read: local = inexpensive. They have a very small menu, offering just the catch of the day along with french fries, plantain and drinks. You place your order out front and go inside to pick it up. We sat at a table right on the pier.

I put together a quick video to highlight our experience there.  If you’re up for an exploration your next trip to the island, I definitely recommend checking out Zeerover Fish Bar.
